SE Murray Mauler Resto lots of pics
« on: June 26, 2011, 09:57 PM »
Hi, Well everyone likes a restoration so heres loads of pics of my "SE" Murray Mauler i managed to source.
This is a 1981 and is almost all original apart from, grips, pedals and stem.
This aint gonna be to eveyones taste as these were pretty low end bikes back then but not everyone could afford the top end stuff, and we all had to start somewhere.
I never actually saw one before this but i have owned a cruiser Puch Murray (british version) which is the same frame along with the Murray x24".
Heres some info taken from bmxultra.com -
bmxultra.com: The Mauler
Scot:  We were so back-ordered with PK's and Quads, we needed frames to sell... Later , I designed the 24" Mauler and had it produced by Murray for us to again compete with the overseas makers. We really prided ourselves on "Made in USA" and stuck it out as long as we could with all models. Unfortunately, Murray was unable to meet our quality standards, and we discontinued the line.

Shame about the seat but im still working on it so i put a different one on for the time being,
Really pleased how it turned out, more of a beach cruiser i reckon. :daumenhoch:
Enjoy-

Thanks for looking :daumenhoch:

Not sure, no stamps any where , and i think the bearing cups maybe new ish, they just look nicely machined.
What you thinking?

Thanks, it feels strange with no brake levers etc.

Pedal back brake instead.

This is brilliant, I recently picked up a NOS frame to build  :D this'll be a great reference point - great resto there buddy, though a few parts seem to stray away from the catalogue pic I sourced:

Rad-pit, thanks for the Ad pic.

I may have seen that on the bay if it was the same one? I sourced mine a couple of weeks before and could'nt believe too see a nos frame for sale.

Seems i may have some parts missing, Padset, Acs stem, reflectors , stand.

Are you gonna try and make yours to original spec?

That's the one buddy  8) I'm going for full spec.. the toughest bits to source will be the Elina, and the Power wings.. though looking at yours, it seems Murray just decal'd a generic x24r up as a Mauler (with the Suntour coaster, bars and tyres).. I've been searching all over the internet for info, but yours is the only one I've found! Even lacking on the Museum  :buck2: absolute spot of luck you've just finished this  :daumenhoch: it looks great.

Thanks guys , nice comments and glad you like it.

The tyres are real chunky, the side walls are pretty cracked but still usable and its not often you find the original tyres on a 30 yr old bike so they had to stay. I think they make the bike along with the wheels.  :)

Love it! I had one of these for a while bitd but can't for the life of me remember what I did with it, I must have sold it or gave it away.  I do remember I got it off a mate, Warren Friel  :-[

:LolLolLolLol: should have probably twigged that you'd be on Rad, Dan. Positive feedback on its way. It really is a low end bike when they drill in to the frame set to mount a chainguard.

I'll keep you in the loop as it comes together.. it's a strange looking thing, but I really like it  :daumenhoch:
