New school bike help

Need some help with getting a bike for my teenage son ,to get him into bmxs.

He's just over 6'  at 14 and still growing.

Hes looking for a freestyle bike as a starter bike.

Looking at a £200 budget new or used as long as it looks ok hes not to fussed.

Been looking at Haro 200 series and mongoose program gumwall  (my choice )

help greatly appreciated

The mongoose programme with the gummies is a great bike for the money, and theres a couple on ebay new for £139 at the moment, been tempted a few times to get one. Ive had a go on the new school haro's built for street and park and found them a bit on the weighty side to be honest, and the componants weren't all up to scratch

A gummy has popped up for sale in next village to us but has no brakes. Our kid wants a gyro so is it a big job to fit to new school as I have no experience of them at all (im oldschool baby  ).

its easy ebough to fit and 1"1/8 gyro, buy new and you get the instructions that always help. The Goose comes with Tektro brakes as standard which are pretty naff, so not having them to start with is a bonus as you can get something decent and not bank breaking like a hombre caliper and dirty harry lever and have some proper stopping power

  Mongoose Program is a no-no for someone so tall as it has a 20"toptube.Look for something with at least a 21" toptube and maybe a used bike as you`ll get more bang for your buck

Cheers will bare that in mind , spotted the haros with longer top tubes ,do most manufacturers do them or just select ones ?

 A growing list but mostly on the higher end models-a lot of entry level bikes will have very short front ends.If a bike doesn`t fit it can feel uncomfortable and bad to ride and the kid will not want to ride it.

I think You're right! His ride has so many parts on it a lot of people would turn their noses up at, seems to work pretty good
