my 84 expert has stickers on it that say "all chromoly"
the sticker on the seattube that says "expert" also says "mongoose all chromoly"

i always thought the mini used different forks
-not true then?

-i have the sr stem, similar bars
-i wonder what the chrome is like on the mini I have, as i have forks from another frame
-plus 1.3/8th arayas -in silver -better get the drill out

Apologies for the 10-year thread resurrection (is that a record?!?), but my question ties in with this thread, I thought I'd keep it all together for ease of reference. :daumenhoch:

From what I've read here and elsewhere, the first of the Taiwanese-made Californian frames were tri-moly (as per that test table) but later on ('85-ish) became full chromoly. My question relates to the pre-Taiwanese Californians that were made in the US in '82/'83 while they were getting setup for production at the Merida factory in Taiwan. Does anyone know whether those US-made framesets were chromoly or tri-moly? I'm guessing the latter, as the Californian was a budget racer, but anyone got any thoughts?
