Ebay bargain or fleabay b*ll*x?
« on: June 01, 2011, 06:08 AM »
I just got these off of ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=180672892358&si=mjS5NVIZz4RmpqTmjIAIjixcWSY%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

But these days bloody everything is listed as "NOS" and "old school", even if it was just stamped out of tin in the Zhang Den Provence, last week.

Are there any particular features to look for that give them away as being one or the other?  I asked the seller and apparently they are stamped with a date and Made in Japan etc.

Its a "NOS!!!!111" and "OLD SCHOOL BMX!!!!11" minefield for the noob.

They are original '80s brakes - no question.  They look like a bargain now because certain sellers want telephone numbers for them but they used to cost £30 (NOS and boxed) in all the colours a few years ago from Skatepool, V**t-Eg*, Alans and the like.

Nobody has faked 901s to my knowledge and if Dia Compes attempts at re-popping their own MX brakes are anything to go by, I don't think anyone will be bothering...

I've had LeeChi 901's before but I don't think they had quick releases on them and it was a sticker, not stamped-in lettering. Deffo DC and worth more than you paid so no worries ;-)
Still limping......

Not seen them in the flesh yet so the proof will be in the pudding.  Fingers crossed.
