Suntour Stem Resto on the cheap.
« on: May 30, 2011, 11:54 PM »
Ok guys just thought id share these few pics as i was quite pleased with the results for very little ££££ .   This was a totally scratched and faded suntour stem , I was only experimenting so the next one will have more time spent on it as i only had a short while to play today .

I sanded the deep scratches off then gave it a quick run on the polishing wheel . Then painted it with an aerosol of Plastikote Glass Paint .   I was very surprised at how good the blue colour was and best thing is it cost next to nothing to do as i hardly used any out of the tin. Finally a set of Retrorichs replacement bolts really finish it off  .

Last pic shows it beside the NOS blue stem on my MK1 Pro.

All in all a nice cheap job that we can all do ourselves easily .   It also comes in red , just a shame theres no gold .

That's a cracking job for £6 and a little elbow grease - gonna give that a go myself on a seatpost clamp and stem I think :daumenhoch:

Any reason why it wouldn't work on caliper arms do you think?

Cheers Spen . mine were even cheaper as i got my tins at a car boot sale for £2 each and he had more so im going back next week to get them  ;).   As for the caliper arms it would work no problem and would look good .  Im going to do some caliper arms myself so they match the stem exactly.   Im looking foward to trying the red also.
