1980 Diamond Back Pro Large
« on: May 09, 2011, 09:59 PM »
Well, Peeps, and so to build number two.....

The DB Pro Large behaves rather like a Yorkshire Metro bus.... you don't see one for ages and then two turn up one after the other. I am not sure I will reach the near perfection of rollin72's Red Apple build, but mine is chrome (well, nicely yellowed nickel, actually), so offers a nice contrast.

The Frame is a 1980 Koizumi, build 1100; here are a couple of pics following the (oxalic) Acid Bath, and before I stripped the decals and began the cleaning and polishing phase:

And adenough's muscular Bearing Press slots home my MX2 cups:

And the Braking kit stripped for colouring up by Paul at Custom Colour:

I am going for more or less era correct, but the colour scheme is my own (Chrome and Black with Red detailing); I have amassed the following for her:

* Tange MX2 Headset
* Sugino Stem
* DB Chro-Mo Medium Bars
* A'Me Rounds (my fave)
* DC Pre Bents (at the Anodisers)
* DC 890s (at the Anodisers)
* Kashi Aero Copy
* Fluted Alloy Seatpost
* Suntour Clamp
* Araya 7Xs with High Flange Sunshine Hubs (being resto-ed as we speak)
* Suntour 16T Freewheel
* KMC Chain
* Comp IIIs
* Suntour Alloy Wheel Nuts
* Sugino Mighty Competition 3 Piecer
* MKS BM7s
* Repro Cali Lite Pad Set (from our very Firebird)

I am twitching to build her up, but I can't stop cleaning and polishing and cleaning and polishing and cleaning and........... When do I complete this phase and move forward?  :uglystupid2:

In truth, I am enjoying this project so much I just don't want to build her and end it!  :smitten:

Watch this space for developments!  :daumenhoch:

Clean.  :coolsmiley:

*ps* If anyone has a part they feel is itching to be on this build feel free to PM me!  ;)

Saw this saturday and it's fookin MINT! Gonna be stunning - you've learned a lot about resto in a short time Richard but the most important thing is to not rush it which you clearly aren't.

Spindle will be with you today so start it tonight!
Still limping......
