How long should a front sprocket last?
« on: May 19, 2011, 10:25 PM »
Okay, so I'm on my third chainwheel in only 6 months of regular use of my NS cruiser. The first chainwheel was used, and the next was almost new.  I know I put a lot of strain on the drivetrain but it doesn't seem long. I suppose I should be grateful that I'm not breaking chains like I was a year ago.

Try a mid skool one all this gay lightweight stuff just isn't bomb proof like stuff was ten years ago.

Are you cleaning the chain (and lightly lubing) and chainwheel regularly Jon?

Some tracks are proper chain killers, dusty surface particularly in warmer weather (Hartlepool  ::)).

mine usually last about a year, if youve stretched the chain it wears out the chainring :daumenhoch:

Cheers guys - I did change my chain (just a few weeks ago) when the last chainwheel already had some wear on it and it seems to have got worse quick. Anyway, got a beefy looking Dragonfly Tie 8mm thick one on the way now  :daumenhoch:

Chain line is reasonable, just me being heavy, fair strong in the leg department, and also putting the power down in a completely un-smooth way (stamp!).
I've just got the beefiest chainwheel I've ever used and combined with an almost new chain, so fingers crossed eh!
