Anodising v Chroming v Powder Coating
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:53 PM »
..I have a project DP Firebird that is in okay condition but, it does have some light rust:

So, just reading the archives and Im now confused!!  There is a anodising thread where frames have been anodised (not surprising) but, they look Chromed to me..!!

Also, some of the anodised frames look powder costed (a gorgeous purple Ripper, for example).

So, whats the difference, especially when you get a chrome effect..

PS: I have read Wikipedia about anodising so I understand the process.  I just dont get when anodising looks like super polished chrome!!

Paul

Ano parts are ally not steel so most frames are not ano, chroming is a long process and expensive the frame has to be stripped then polished before chroming and the end result is better the more polishing filling etc is done, powder is quick and cheapish, there is a chrome available (mirror chrome) which is lacquered after which looks very much like real chrome, wet paint systems can match chrome better and with the right application look  :smitten: :smitten:
