« on: May 11, 2011, 08:00 PM »
Mate of mine just been round with this, advertised in the local paper and got it for 25 quid. Maybe all its worth but we know nowt about it. One owner, original dealer sticker (Grimsby) and a 'Made in Canada' sticker near BB. Any ideas about year??

Scuse the 'snake' in background!!!  ;D

That's the original seat and chainset for a start that came on the American Rampars

Cool find and what a bargain  :daumenhoch:

Like to know the story of how it got here to the bike shop,, as it can't have been through the U.K distributors  :-\

I had a mate who came to live over here from Canada when I was about 12 he brought over his DB Viper ,but it was factory issue black ( instead of chrome)and a spec more like a silver streak  ::)

How very rude!!!  :knuppel2:  ;D

I kinda like the Raleigh just cos it's a nice bit of untouched bmx history but not sure if enough to try buy it off him.........  :-\   I also like the thought of not having to worry about it getting scratched!!

It's not a rampar R10. Or even a rampar for that matter.
There's a Canada brochure in tech archive on burnerworld from around 82/83. This is slightly earlier than that.
It's a model from the earliest Canadian Raleigh range. I have only seen one more example from this range that turned up on BW last year. That was an early red baron.
Can't elaborate any further for you on what your model was called though.

At the latest it could be early 82. Check the rims on it, Raleigh Canada sometimes date stamped them.

And B the golden rule with id'ing a rampar when a bike is obviously original like this is.....if it says rampar on it, it's a rampar. If it says Raleigh it isn't.

Personally if i really wanted it i may stretch to a tenner more than your mate paid. I don't think i would want it though.
Finding out if the rims are dated just for clarification and saving the pics to my raleigh bits and bats folder is enough for me with this one. :coolsmiley:

Feck... I had to have it for that deal so job done!!  ;) Need more space!!

Glynn, here's a few more pics, if there's owt else ya need to know for ya library drop me line. Sun rims dated 09 81 made in Canada 842098, Sunshine hubs, Win stem, Super MX The Grippers rubber and a Nottingham sticker on the headstock, I guess not original???  ??? Apparently the dealer, Sydney W. Dine, Waltham Road Grimsby closed down about 5 years ago. I may try find him, give him a buzz to see if he can shed light on how he ended up with it for sale. I should really get a life!!!!  ;D Can ya help me out with a used set of grips of the right era? Fancy getting a plate for it too, guess a paper plate and a felt pen number would do nicely..................... Right, shed time and get those bars back for starters.  :daumenhoch:

The badge is right. At that time Raleigh badged bikes Raleigh nottinham England as though that was the full name of the company.
The rampar R10's mentioned earlier were made in tiawan, Canada though had it's own Raleigh factory and they made there own. Later for bikes made outside Nottingham they changed the badge dropping the Nottingham England bit.

All the info is dotted about on't tinterweb.
Already having the burner addiction I was just interested to see what Raleigh bmx was up to before it hit the uk shores.

I like to think of myself at pack a mack level.
Hoping one day to reach full on anorack status. ;D
