1983 mongoose californian
« on: May 06, 2011, 07:24 PM »
Got this frame and forks through Matt (matskybeat) when I first got back into this BMX lark over 2 years ago, just never got round to building it .

Survivor chrome with re pop decals . Pro class rims took a bit or restoring but I got there in the end , big thanks to Steve (Animal) for getting shut of some rather big dents  :-[  , your a diamond mate  :4_17_5:  You can see some pics on his rim resto sticky thread.

Always liked these bikes as a kid and it was either one of these , a Diamond Back viper or an MT Racing Silverfox that i had as my choice as my first BMX , I went for the latter as I wanted something that hardly anybody else had near us .

a few padless shots .....

Big thanks to:
Matt (matskybeat) , frame and forks, PC disc
Carl (in2robinsons), brakes and stem
James (voivod)  chainring and free stickers !
John (bobafett) for constantly telling me im doing it all wrong  :D   ...... only joking mate , thanks for your help ;)

The seat will be getting changed when i get round to restoring the Blue Viscount aero i have for it  ;)

Comments welcome good or bad !

Thanks lads

Joff  :)

Spot on that Joff, great effort and attention to detail which we all like. I agree, don't change the seat, looks tip top as is.

Have you got a link for your rim resto, I could use some inspiration for mine.

Nice survivor that Mark , I actually have 99% of the parts to make this a stock build , sr pedals, dc copy hinged clamp etc but I wanted to put my own touches to it  ;)   I like the later style pads to but John had told me that these graffiti pads as i call them are correct for a 1983 Cali.

nice build there John  :daumenhoch:  Californian my first "real" bmx  :smitten:

could have been my first BMX to Lennie but i went for the Silverfox in the end  :)

Steve straightened a few dents/dings out for me  ....... http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=112300.0  page 2 last post  ;)

I have resto'd quite a few rims so PM me if you want , Sid1972 did a good step by step guide on restoring a set of Araya's not long since , i will try and find the link .

See ya in Blackpool Dan  :D

Cheers Dan , sometimes the coloured tyres can look out of place but i think they work really well on this .

The bars are pro size , stamped with good ol' Maurice himself ........ John kept sniffing around these to go with the other 3 or 4 sets he has  ::) ;D

 ;D

Have to agree with Matskybeat mate, one of the nicest looking put together Cali's Ive seen. I think from what I notice with Goose collectors they seem to either go for pre 82 / 83 gusset style Gooses or the 83 onwards ones without gussetts, have to say Im a non gussett man myself when it comes to Mongoose  ;)

About time you finished this one FFS  :LolLolLolLol:

You've had the padset for over 2 years......... before you even had the frame !  :2funny:

She's a beauty Joff - pics don't do her enough justice she's even nicer in the flesh  :smitten:

Nice balance that gives the look of a stock goose but with a few choice custom tweaks  ;)
