Rampar Team
« on: April 23, 2011, 10:48 PM »
Just over a year ago now Pitbaldridge (bmx museum member) come by this frame and was on the hunt for info as to what it was.

The frame is a BMX PRODUCTS (mongoose) Chatsworth factory made Rampar Team frame. I think about 7 or 8 of these are known of at present. Two are candy blue and the rest are nickel.

The frame was available to the public by special order. The team raced the frame in either nickel or candy red over nickel. The public had a third option to order in candy blue.

I asked if the frame was for sale and made an offer but was turned down.
Anyway a couple of months passed and i had a pm asking if i was still interested in the frame. ( i was and in no time at all it was on it's way to the UK)

A few pm chats to Mr fett to determine which forks i needed to be on the hunt for and the search began.
I lucked out on a straight swap for some cali forks i had just had rechromed but were surplus to requirements, for the much needed Gen 1 goose forks. These had been quite harshly blasted and needed some considerable attention.

The forks were sent to my mate buttsbikeshop (Jonathan). They were re-nickel plated and as you can see i had chosen to go for doing the bike in red candy over nickel.

It seems as long as the colours were team, for Toby and Jeff the more off the wall the better.

In my info gathering i found a couple of pics of Toby racing a candy red. The second pic at the Indy 79 was where inspiration for my build came from.

I had a bit of luck along the way with this build, one in particular was getting hold of some nos kenda gummies with inner tubes & and the mks bm5 pedals.
A batch of nos rampars were uncovered a couple of year ago in a wharehouse in New Orleans. The finder sold most of the bikes complete but broke a couple for parts. I ended up with the tyres tubes and pedals.

Anyway enough of the jibba jabba here is how my Rampar Team turned out.
Inspired by Toby Henderson.
Thanks go out on putting this together to.

Not like John to request a no pad shot  , he's pad mad all the time  :D

PS I reckon he is very jealous of that rare BMX products frameset  ;)

The last pic really shows the stunning colour Glynn  8)

The bike wouldn't  look authentic with a better balance.
The pad grip and seat colour choices were made by Toby Henderson in 1979 not me.
I just tried to get the bike as close to his as I could.
 :daumenhoch:
Thanks for nice comments too guys.

That's an awesome looking bike.  I had the all-black version of those tyres - never knew they made a gumwall version, they are very cool.   :4_17_5:

I know a guy in the US that was looking for some to complete a rampar build. He contacted kenda and was told they were only released to manufacturers. So were available oem but not after sales. So basically you could only get them on a bike. They appeared on 3 rampar models R11 XL , R11 & R10 SC. I knew the story about them so when the opportunity to get these came up I was made up. 8)
Thanks for the positives guys.
