44:16 will have gear ratio of 55.0

43:17 will be 50.6 and 43:16 will be 53.8 so quite a big drop if your looking for something slightly easier than 44:16

44 16 is kind of the industry standard optimal gearing ratio but it also depends on tire size as well. 43 17 is not the same though and would be way easier to crank and quicker to spin out. If you wanted to use 17 on the back and get the same result as 44 16, youd need 47(ish) on the front. 43 16 would not make too much difference.

As a general rule Ive heard you can say that 1 tooth on the back is the same as 2.5 / 3 on the front and making cogs bigger on the front gives taller (harder) gearing but making bigger cogs on the back gives easier gearing.

 :P

Hope that helps!

thats the stuff of MK 07 legend  :LolLolLolLol:  :daumenhoch:

41 : 15 is between 44 and 43 : 16,

longer n shorter cranks with only affect the amount of effort required and not the speed (plus its usually only 5mm so its more psychological than owt else)

mongoose shipped the team goose and supergoose with a 14T shimano cassette hub and 39T chainring which effectively gives roughly the same gearing as 44/16.

Personally I use 44/16 on my cali rider but switched to 43/16 on my supergoose that I use for wobbling round coppull cos I'm slow and shit and needed slightly easier pedalling up the mountainous coppull track  :-[ :D
