Area Reflex nOoB Build Phase 3: Completion! (Pic Heavy)
« on: March 28, 2011, 09:58 PM »
Well here she is, my first build and dream rider, my Aero Reflex "Twirl" (named after the Chocolate Bar hidden in my DC901 Set from snav).

Unfortunately it is far too dark in the village, and there are far too many big, steep hills (bloody Pennines) for a decent ride out tonight, but I have hopped her around the back yard!  :daumenhoch:

Just a couple of Del-Cals to go on, when I find the bloody things (arse), a Seat Post Clamp, and some blingy Halo Alloy Axle Nuts, but for what it's worth.......

Feedback welcome, as long as it is not horrible!  :-[

Will take some snaps in the sun, tomorrow!  :daumenhoch:

That's a cracking first build fella - well done and I love the decals you picked, cracking :daumenhoch:

Yes, I'm not a great fan of the snake, but Reflex's are short frames I recall, so you may need the extra room. Personally I cut the last inch or two off layback posts so they are a bit more subtle, but you've stuck your ground and follwed Griff's advice, so good on you (even though clearly John is derranged of course :2funny: :2funny: ) If you start to ride parks you'll need a straight version as you can't slam your saddle out the way, but you'll find out the first time you take a bail on the ramps and get tangled in the bike of course..............

Now you have a rider, get out on it, fall off it to scratch it a little bit and come meet us all at Blackpool skate park on the 15th, (but go easy on those Compe 3's). Once you've broken your cherry at a meet, you won't feel like such a tit on your own, as let's face it, we should all know better at our age. However, it s good fun, good exercise and we're all not complete retards (well, I'll have to let you make up your own mind when you meet Dubber & Diggler of course!)

So, your second build needs to be far less rushed, and it needs to start introducing the idea that whilst bolting the thing together is great, a bit of actual restoration work and sourcing parts not NOS in the box is also rewarding........ so what's it gonna be then >:D :2funny: Obviously now you have a freestyle bike it needs to be a race bike but what did you always want BiTD?

We're not helping are we ??? :2funny:

Nice build, get it finished and chuck it in bike of the month to say hello to the site properly bud :daumenhoch:
Still limping......

Thanks for all of the positive feedback; much appreciated, and adds to the fun!

So, it turns out the Missus had binned a tenner's worth of Del-Cals because she "thought they were rubbish"; her words, not mine.  >:(

Five minutes rummaging through the bins later and I retrieved them, intact and clean; they will be going on later tonight, along with the Seatpost clamp that arrived this morning.  :D

Might just make the last minute entry for BoTM.

Got my eye on something sweet, and can't afford another build like the last one! You lot will be the first  to hear if I bag it!  ;)

A race bike with spokes next, and something needing a bit of love and tenderness from the late 70's / early 80's let's hope?

Then young Jedi, your training is complete and you are hooked like the rest of us fools... ;-D

Bagged one, 1981, apparently mint, Serial Number stacks up for the model, pictures, curiosities etc.. Price too good to be true based on my research on here. Awaiting delivery and inspection before getting too excited!

The Missus has already booked me a week at The Priory (she figures it will be cheaper in the long run).  :10_2_12:

A friend from work who is a very keen MTBer, and BMXer BITD (and had black Tuffs fitted, ironically) did a proper job on the Axles; shortened and rounded them off as new, and filed flats to the front axles in such a way that they fit perfectly, but the nuts can still be wound over them if needed. Cost me a bottle of rosé!

 :4_17_5:

He went through two new hacksaw blades on the toughened axles!  :daumenhoch:

A couple more pics for you as she nears perfection (in my eyes, obviously):  :smitten:
