Aero Reflex NoOb Build Phase 2 (Pic Heavy)
« on: March 26, 2011, 12:45 PM »
Final deliveries are here:

Del-cals applied, and not too bad for my virgin build (wet stylee all the way):

A cracking little decal left on by the previous caretaker of this beautiful F&F, Madferret:

A little Sure Anti Perspirant and a Phillips Screw Driver later:

And a bearing press courtesy of Adenough (cheers, fella):

Now off out to by a bigger spanner to turn Adenough's nuts!
  ;D

I am having a whale of a time; almost don't want to finish it!  :D

No hope of seeing her finished tonight, however; a friend from work is cutting down the stupidly long axle bolts and filing a couple of professional flats into the front one so I can fit it without the use of a knocking stick / big fooking hammer!

Please shout loudly now if I am about to do something seriously wrong with my new series Skyways!  :uglystupid2:

Cheers for the feedback; it is a real confidence booster!  :daumenhoch:

Now, does anyone know how on earth to fit one of these Headset Locking thingamajigs?:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280635534960&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

No idea what to do with all of the little pieces, as there are only two holes at 90 degrees to each other...... and what on earth do I do with the circlip / springy thing that is seated in the thread inside the unit?.... Oh, and does it replace anything in the standard Tioga Headset other than the final locking nut? Help, please?  :-[

Cheers in advance,

Clean.  :coolsmiley:

hi clean regarding skys i can see they are similar to dp forks with that closed bit on drop out i ended up loosening cones winding axel out  completely then putting wheel between forks hold cones then wind axel back in and out till its on ,much patience required  :LolLolLolLol: as for shortening axel just do one side then wind axel in ,i took 1.5cm off mine with grinder and thin metal cutting disc just enough to get pegs on fully.but would probably be as well to flatten tho if thats ur plan  :daumenhoch:  cant help you with set lock sorry..

Nice idea, Rick; I hate the thought of grinding flats into the Axles, to be honest.

Any views (from anyone) on how much thread I should leave "spare" sticking out from the nuts? I won't be fitting pegs, as these only really appeared after I stopped riding, and I want a notalgic ride rather than a fully tricked out beeeyatch!  ???

For the record, the continued support from the RAD Community is proving invaluable; thank you so much,

Clean.  :coolsmiley:

The Landar locking ring should only replace the top section of your standard headset , the grub screws "in theory"should pinch it tight ... The Landar ones  arent the best though, would just stick to your headset as is ...

Mate,

Got a length of 20mm bar and a couple of nuts from stores at work, greased up my cups, bought a big fat Stanley mover and.....

Hey, presto! Cups in place quicker and easier than you can say "Where's Adenough's other nut"!

Sweet, mate.....

Huge thanks for the (completely free) help and hardware!   :daumenhoch:

You rock!   :smitten:

Headset stripped, cleaned and regreased with swanky, teflon-containing, for-some-reason-bright-fooking-red, bearing grease.  :daumenhoch:

Locking Headset Nut in Black fitted.  :daumenhoch:

Skyway Axle bolts being cut down tomorrow at work.  :daumenhoch:

Final Phase, 3, will ensue tomorrow night. Hoping to hop her on Tuesday!  :D
