My Next Project FORKS UPDATE
« on: February 28, 2011, 12:46 AM »
well i havnt even finished my Kz1 and im already starting this little puppy  :D

i found this and new i had to have a pop at it as i love macmania's and bendycats on the museum  :daumenhoch:

its a MT Silverfox from what i can see im just waiting for macmania to confirm this for me  :4_17_5:

as you will see from the pics it is in need of some light resto work in terms of the little specks of rust on it but they go with very little effort

but what i would like to know is what is the best way to get this to a lovely shine finish ?

i have read loads of resto's but not done this myself so would like some sound advice from the experts please

here are a few pics of it as it stands at this moment in time at the beginning of its rebirth  :daumenhoch:

Are the forks 'aero' style  ie Teardrop ?

Has the rear brake bridge got a raised section ?

Serial number and from what i can see it looks like a Silverfox to me  ;)

Give it the lemon juice and tinfoil treatment  ;)  A good polish with Peek and the old girl will be gleaming  8)

Love these bikes  :smitten:  Still got my original one from BITD and currently doing a factory spec one myself.
WANTED : Old school BMX patches/sew on badges ......  please  :)

It is indeed the one that was sat in a damp shed on the bay

she does look a lot worse in the pics and they pulled off the original downtube decal hence the grotty looking marks  :tickedoff:

i have been looking at your build buddy and yep was hopeing you would shed some light on how you got it to that stage so will be going through those links for the resto  :daumenhoch:

already ordered the decals from Del  :daumenhoch:

will be following this thread with interest!

my only bike from BITD was a silver fox, will be picking up something MT Racing-made fairly soon for build #3
at this stage not sure which of the foxes it is and not having seen it don't know what condition it's in yet, but looking forward to having something to mess with again (am sure my wife will be delighted)

keep the pics coming please  :daumenhoch:

i can get 10 lemons for £1 at the shop round the corner

Well it's definitely a Silverfox and NOT a Superfox  8)

Just to be different  :D I would put the Frame and Forks into a Citric or Oxalic Acid bath for 24 hours then simply wipe down, dry and polish with Autosol  ::)

But if you like hard graft and sticky fingers then foil and lemon it is................sorry Joff couldn't resist  :LolLolLolLol:

Remember the headset is painted steel so I would remove it before you give it a bath just incase  :-\
Wanted: Anything MT Racing

autosol to harsh - use peek instead  ;)

when using tin foil it crumples up smaller and can tend to trap any flakes of rust/metal - this then can scratch lines into the chrome making it look dull - just my findings  :-X

i guess you can try all three ideas and see which one works the best for you  ;)
