I bid on a Widowmaker on ebay over a year ago when I was looking for a bike to ride and possibly race. I'd have bid a lot more if I knew what I know now and was as sure what I want from an OS racebike.

Its a job to say how much Widowmakers go for, cos they dont come up often at all. I think Ive only seen ONE up for sale, ever. But I did stop looking after that one  ::)

I was never sure if Dee  Snider actually racing 24" BMX was just a Myth/ S&M Publicity stunt but I guess he really did:

there was one for sale over on bmxmuseum complete for $1100, approx £600GBP, to say i wasnt tempted would be a lie, shipping would kill me though

there was also another complete over on ebay us for around the same price, start price was $1000, ended with no bids

Ive got 3 S&M Cruisers. The widowmaker (which I did race at MK a few years ago but dont really use), a 1997 oversized Challenger, and a 24" RV. The Challenger is my "pub bike" and the RV is my wifes bike.

Yeah, its realy nice. I got it from S&M in 97. Picked up the chrome frame, forks and bars off the shelf and got them custom painted black. Got the pad set as well. Its been in all kinds of states since then but I gave it a bit of a face lift a few years ago. New wheels, cranks, brake, grips, seat, everything really. Even got a new decal set. The back end is a bit long so its not that easy to get the front up, but its quicker than a 20", and way more fun to ride than any other big wheeled bike.

cool, i could be tempted by a 24in dirtbike when they are ready to go on sale but would ideally like another 90's bike

Im not totally sure about 24" S&Ms cos I didnt really pay any attention to them at the time, but I think they did a very early 24" (1 inch) that might not even have had a name. They they did the Widowmaker (also 1 inch). Then there was the 24" wishbone challengers that was 1 1/8. That might mean that in the 90s there were two 1inch cruisers, and the oversized challenger cruiser (but I could have that wrong).

just had a scan through bmx museum and the only 1in cruisers on there are widowmakers, maybe the one you remember was the widowmakers prototype?

I dont even remember it, ive just seen photos of a 1inch cruiser that just had the early "S&M BIKE" or maybe "S&M FRAME", "S&M FORK" stickers on it.  :-\

S&M did make some 1" cruisers before the Widowmaker..They had serial numbers without the SMC prefix that the WM's had and came with early S&M DIRTBIKE decals, cut in half to give S&M BIKE..These early frames didn't have the gusset either that the later WM's have...Although there are some 'non'gusset WM's too...

That sounds like the one Ive seen pics of. I cant remember where I saw the photos, some web site or another.

I heard that those frame decals came in 2 halves. A sheet in red, that was the "S&M" part, and a yellow sheet that had the "DIRTBIKE" half. The Yellow sheet also had "FORKS" on there, and they'd use the same "S&M" on frame and forks. It made the sticker printing cost less.

Here's a pic on an old dirtbike with those decals.

 That makes sense..

So I guess they just cut off the 'DIRT' bit to sticker up the 24's..Until Dee Snider came on to the scene and the 'Rock Legend Series' was born...

 What were they thinking?

Dee: "THIS is what you expect at S&M"

Take it you guys have spotted this little fella. Seems he's reduced his asking price from $6000  to a much more reasonable $1500  ;)
