DP Firebird first gen build Semi Finished
« on: February 04, 2011, 10:23 PM »
This was an impulse buy on Ebay one afternoon, bought whilst looking for something totally unrelated to Bmx,When it arrived the seat post had stuck solid in the frame and was a good 6 inches down in the seat tube, A touch of heat and the old stem trick and it was freed, The forks in the picture are not the original set and have now been sidelined for a pair of Tange tx1200,s, the 2 pictures below show how it was, hopefully tomorrow it will be finished as I am collecting the freshly powdered frame and forks in the morning, The colour I have gone for is a metal flake black as there where traces of black in the awkward to get to places on the frame which may indicate that it was a very early frame as the first few were black with gold flecks, cant proove that it was but it should look well in Black .... heres looking forward to getting it on the road

Heres hoping     :daumenhoch:   my powder coating guy is a bit hit and miss , does a great great job when he,s not manic, but has been know to have the odd frame back when hes rushed it, saying that he has never charged me more than 20 quid for any frame set so cant complain about the odd duffer ..

Not 100 percent on the yellow and also dont want too much black on it... may go with some black grips and a straight post 1st

Ditch the layback, leave the grips matching the seat though and maybe change the brake levers to Tech 3's or 4's other than that it looks great  :daumenhoch:

Parts wise , dia compe brake set, tioga compe 3,s , 1980 dated airline stem, sugino crank and associated parts, landar seat clamp (Token British part for a British bike) iscacelle seat, big old bars, dont know what they are , wheels are unstamped and came from my local bike shop still with a price tag on of £7 per wheel,He had 4 so I bought the lot,I thought it would be rude not too, He is an old raleigh dealer and thought they may have been sturmey archer but unmarked, anyway after removing all the yellow oil they were coated in they came up great and spin true ...
