RACE BIKE Number 2 -Piccys-
« on: May 05, 2006, 03:44 PM »
Race Bike Number 2 is now finished and ready for action :D  I have removed 80% of the varnish/laquer that was coating the frame. As soon as i get the Decals repro'd i will clean and polish it fully. It looks to be triple chrome plated as the shine is superb.
I went with the VDC made chrome Vector Mark 2 from 1982ish:

Voris Dixon manufactured Vector Mark 2 Chromoly frame and Forks
NOS Vector Chromoly race bars with integrated stem
Chrome Araya 7X with Suzue precision sealed hubs
Elina UL integrated seat n Chromoly post
TNT chromed magnesium seat clamp
Dia Compe chrome 890s (front is from a Leary Turbo)
Dia Compe cables and Tech III levers
Shimano 600 alloy crankset,
Shimano 42T alloy chainring
Tioga Taskforce sealed BB and spindle
Izumi black and silver chain
DXalike Wellgo pedals ^^
Old logo Am'e Duals
Cheng shin Snakebellys

although the bars look colossal you have to take into account the lack of stem, making them look taller than they are.

that is one seriously nice looking o/s race machine. i bet its dope to ride

Thanks for the comments dudes ;)
The wide bars feel great when riding... I have always liked wide bars...these are 29 inch spread. 28-29inch spread was the norm for pro bars in late 83 and onward after the 70s had given us box bars and the late 70s early 80s had given us the V bar. Both were 26-27 inches wide and about 6-7 inch rise at best and didn't accomodate the larger rider or those who felt awkward using such bars. I have always felt restricted in being able to place the bike where it needs to be by using smaller bars. Its true that they look huge but its an illusion due to the lack of stem. Like the ruler says ;)
The decals are GEN1 Decals and were used on the VDC made models of 1982. They are the original decals and i am arranging to have them proffesionally repro'd by a mate of mine who works in the graphics industry.  The later Vectors had the other decals, see the black Gen 2 frame and forks i have for sale in the For Sale section ;)

Hi Andy ,

That looks good  :daumenhoch:

What's the serial no. ? . The dropouts look to be early ones but those decals are later versions , here's an early Vector Ad followed by a later Vector Ad . My Vector (82 VDC) is also pictured in different guises.

Confused is a word i would use right now ;D  The decals on this chrome one look original to me...like they have always been there.
Serial number on my chrome vector is: 1840192  does this mean its January 1984 ???
The black vector i have has no serial number and the rear tri comes to a point ???
I am going to try and catch up with Darren Bullock this week...he used to ride for them. He now runs an electrical/security supplies shop in Doncaster. I will pick his brains  ;)
Thanks for posting the piccys... any and all info is always much welcomed :daumenhoch:

Lovely bike, always liked Vectors. Not sure about the rotary washing line that's sticking out of the headtube though.   ::)

Just been looking at that Vector ad. Can we please start the nominations now for the best BMX name from the 80s - I had thought there was no beating Rusty Cable but Randy Moore gets my vote..  :coolsmiley:

Just talked to Darren Bullock... He rode Vector in 84ish so the VDC made ones were later than the other pointed rear triangle Vector frames i believe.

I posted my Vector (Vector was owned by Mark Bauman) on VBMX or OS with frame number signifying 82 & was informed that VDC made the early ones .

It appears that VDC made quite a few bike companies early frames before those companies became more established .

Ask the Vector question (early/late VDC ?) over the pond ?.
