That will do it for cleaning it or a refurb job but for a nos chain just lube it with any light oil griff and it will be fine  WD 40 or 3 on 1 oil anything like that :daumenhoch:

was thinking more about the chain hanging off the mongoose in the shed tbh - will get first look at it in daylight tomorrow as I keep having to go to midlands at weekends
got some wd40 in kitchen cupboard, someone told me it wasn't much cop as a lubricant tho but better suited to cleaning/derusting...? they did recommend 3in1 with ptfe but thought i'd be better of checking with the experts on here  :daumenhoch:

can't wait to get started on the mong - hope the snow they forecast doesn't come tho as mrs doesn't want it inside the house  ;D

WD 40 is not a lubricant, it is a water displacer and has to be renewed regulary, GT 85 is far superior  :daumenhoch:
WD 40 cleans the oil/lubricant out of the chain as well as any water/shite

clean in petrol/ WD40, soak in oil, lube regulary with GT85  :daumenhoch:

For cleaning I use a degreaser/cleaner and then lubricate with Pedro's.

I use a good quality dry lube as a final lube once the chain is clean!! Ask in any good bike shop and they will sell you some!! It's expensive in comparison to GT85 but longer lasting in my experience

Replace chain on a regular basis if you can. burst pods, broken wrists and a smashed face aren't fun. :daumenhoch:

already had one wrist op (defo not fun)
never had burst pods (but equally sounds a long way off fun)

maybe I'll just get a new chain for the old mongoose instead of trying to rub the rust off it  ::)

think 'burst pods' was the verbal nudge that I needed to stop being a skinflint, after all the bike was only 27 quid
