Rebuild Money Pit

Rebuilding a Mongoose Cali and the costs seem to be spiraling out of control..... ::)

How much have you guys spent building an authentic bike using NOS / secondhand parts.  Would the bike be worth, complete,  the sum of its parts?

Sure is fun though....  ;D

Cheers

that mongoose downtube sticker is in the post to you today reginald :)

as for the cost of bikes, i do see people building bikes and trying to sell them at a profit

but unless you get some cracking deal on some of the parts, it aint never gonna be actually worth the sum of the bits.

do it for the fun, not for the profit. profiteerers are making this HOBBY very expensive

agreed. Most folk will break u a bike and part out the components for a couple of reasons, first you'll get more money that way and second I think the majority of folk enjoy the hunt and tracking down parts to build up a bike themselves rather than buying up someones completed project.

That said it is possible to buy whole bikes just for a gem of a component - you need eagle eyes for that and there are a lot of people out in the market now doing the same thing.

using bargains and trades ive kept all my builds to a minimum

GHP(with nos forks) = £225

84 Haro sport (was nos but ive hammered it a bit) = £260

88.5 sport (most expensive part was decals @£32) = £158.50

91 SE Assassin = £244

Haro FST (straight stay version) = £138

all but 2 run flights

not that much spent but i build my bikes to be used and feel right to ride rather than tryin to be era exact and dealer specs

I'm after a pair of Redline Flight Cranks, what sort of money should i be looking at paying? I thought i would get a good old school set for just over £150 but that doesn't seem enough...
