do these brakes work any good?

i mean, better than side pulls?

are they are usable brake?

I've used them on heaps of bikes and never really encountered much trouble with them, Although I didn't really care too much for the brake pads they came out with so I used to buy Koolstop pads....Or Tuff pads when I was using Skyways.
Regarding the question "better than side pulls?" I guess that all depends on what side pulls you use. I've always liked ACS BOA's but in the looks department, The Pitbull's have it won.

i would not advise anyone to run a pit bull on the front

what i want to know is, is a pitbull any good for actual use (on the back), or does it slop about and flex like a sidepull (that isnt a boa!)

Pitbulls can work as good as a Boa and sometimes even better. For the best stopping power out of Pitbulls, Use a top quality cable and brake pads and also put a little lube on the cam and she'll pull you up quick smart. Pitbulls don't really flex that I've noticed as long as you check the 2 chrome bolts periodically.

theres not alot between them

the only flex on a pitbull would be the mounting bolt in the brake bridge
but i have never noticed any on mine

After looking for one on the 'Bay for a while with no luck, there's suddenly been quite a few on offer. I snagged one just last week.
Well worth buying whilst they're around, I'd say.

Lube the square block behind the cam, and don't take it off thinking it's not neccessary.
Also if you can get rid of that 'arm', it works much better. For a couple of years I ran a piece of metal strip with a drilled hole at each end that attached to the seatpost clamp bolt. I just attached the adjuster onto the opposite end of that, and gained a ton of performance.
There was a manufactured seatclamp with an integrated arm & stopper, Odyssey made it for this very purpose, I think.

pitbulls are b@stards to set up, i foookin hate them, boas are by far thew best brake ive ever used, but then again i couldnt get a decent cable angle on the pitbulls to operate them correctly, i do know that if you put the time in they do work well but the acs are the easy option

I agree, I always loved the look of pitbulls but hated the function.
we would always add or try to make extra springs for them so they would release.

the springs on pitbulls were pants.

the only thing that was good about them was the looks.

I ran a pitbull on my first bike when returning to bmx. Spent a long time setting it up and it ran quite well in the end. My piece of advice for best stopping power would be to not run a gyro. Good ole brake cable will help out no end. Make sure, as the others have said, that the block is lubed (and spotlessly clean i would also say), and the brake blocks are nice and soft.

The Pozi-Stop clamps were excellent. I got tired of looking at the black steel cable stop that came with the Pitbulls so I started using a Pozi-Stop and it made a world of difference in the looks department and to the braking performance too. I've seen them in polished, red, black and blue. I once saw a custom purple anodised one on a ELF.
