Rust removal from spokes / rims
« on: January 16, 2011, 09:38 AM »
After a bit advice really on how to remove rust from spokes and rims,or at least a cheap way. I've just purchased a Blue Max and the frame isn't to bad at all just a few small spots of rust but nothing too serious but the spokes are quite rusty almost black on a few of them.

Or are they beyond saving!

Thought as much, but to be honest will probably use this as a rider so they don't necessarily need to look mint just better than they currently do but with minimum cost!!!

Just respoke them it doesn't take long to do then the wheels will look a million dollars and to is alot easier to clean the rims and hubs aswell :daumenhoch:

Remember to remove the freewheel before you remove the spokes from the rear hub as they are really difficult / almost impossible to remove once the wheel has been stripped.  The freewheel would be in the way of the spoke holes when you come to rebuild the wheel.  :daumenhoch:

Personally I use citric acid powder mixed with water - safe, cheap and works perfectly  :daumenhoch:

You can find it on ebay  ;)

mongoositis - an expensive disease......
