What was your local BMX shop back in the day?

Alans bmx shop for me and still going strong, lowe mill lane hindley originally then wigan town centre. all the kids used to save up their pocket money till they had £20 for some Torker pro bars . we also had Winstanleys , bitd it was a toy shop with a bike dept up stairs , and last but not least Rogersons aswell bought my mike buff z rims from there £40 .

Dave Kane cycles in Belfast.. he stocked mongoose ,redline and diamond back  i still remember going up on a friday night to pick up my first mongoose . and then we would cycle up on a sat morning just to look at stuff or get a magazine . its still there but no bmx now its mainly road bikes

weymouth had fook all to offer in the way of bmx shops,it was halfords or nothing pretty much.our nearest decent shop was hot wheels in bournemouth an hour away!!they had everything you could have wished for.they were big importers of cw hence the reason why every other kid around weymouth had a cw and so began my love of them god damn ugly bikes(check my next build sometime soon!)

Main place near me in Bristol was either SR Cycles (who ran the Bristol BMX club SR Jets) or Rollermania.

Obviously the same for me, however Rollermania (skateboards) changed it's name to Bikeology, and is still there today, however back as Rollermania.

Tony who ran it is still in contact with Fiola, and was behind the 'Hutch Team Tour' when they came to the UK.

Sean, can you remember 'Spec's' from the shop and a black called called Shane ?

Had all the top spec gear , I can remember getting
Some Christmas money , and going in there , and coming out
With a red set of tuff 2's , a pair of vdc monkey bars
And a pair of Oakley grips , was a magic moment

They were a bit gob smacked though when I took my Curtis back
After snapping it , gave me a new one , no problem

There still trading aswell I think

I used to work in Bunneys on a Saturday and holidays too 

they still sponsor me to this day although its Matt (John and Sue's son) now

My local shop was Mills hardware in St.Asaph in north wales, all landar and formos but they had diamond back gear aswell cos my mate bought a brand spanking diamond back race frame off them late 90's that they found in the back (then part ex changed it in Westend cycles in Llandudno for a powerlite freestyle bike). We were still buying mx1000 copies until the late 90's and genuine dc cables as they had shit loads of the stuff.

Junction Cycles in Mellis, near Eye, Suffolk.

Neal & Sue Jarvis ... I worked there in the summer holidays and loved it. They sponsored our team and we practiced in the street outside at lunchtimes.

Stetchford Cycles, place to go if ya lived in Brum (or Halfords in Chelmsley Wood shopping cente )

then used to cycle up to H Craig cycles in Bordesley Green (great little shop with trick bits)

Im sure I got this YES cap from Ladypool cycles (that's me dad btw!) and all the other bits, bars, grips, levers were from those shops

They had a Raleigh specialist in Hatfield which is still there now and wasnt much good so we used to jump on the train to Stevenage to visit Custom Riders, was a much smaller shop than it is now and Mason had hair!!! 

Rob that cycle shop in Hatfield is cack!  they never have a thing in the shop that need!   
as for Custom Riders, i think they were in Hitchin rather than Stevenage fella..........i grew up in Stevenage and we never had a shop like his (unfortunately) although it was great when Mason popped into Bowes so we could all drool over his Gen1 

Yep Custom Riders was defo in Hitchin .. i remember my dad taking me there to pick up my Trickstar when i was 13 ... i remember that day .. thats where it all started for me

BMX Specials was the LBS for me in Harrogate. Spent loads of time there on both sides of the counter.

Not far away was Melanie Vauvelle's Ultra BMX in Yeadon Leeds, had some nice stuff in there but didn't last long.

And a little further away was Cobra BMX in Bradford - this preceeded BMX Specials and Ultra BMX and was such a rad shop! It was like walking into BMX mecca, rows of the chrome shinney chrome frame and forks and bars and wheels and cranks and seat posts and stems, Vans, the trickest race kit..................oh I remember it like it was yesterday.

I lived in London so was a bit spoiled for BMX shops, my nearest was De Ver Cycles in Streatham, but he was a bit iffy, labeling up a silver Fox once as a Redline    so I didn't go there much, I used Edwards, Alpine Action, Waldens & there was a local-ish shop in Pollards Hill-Norbury area but I can't remember what it was called, I got a lot of bits like pedals, brakes, grips etc from there  I also once went to Surrey Skates to get a bolt in coaster for my Tuffs 


& just remembered the shop at Rom

Mike Vickers in Barking, Got my Puch Rapier from there and my Torker. Eddy Gimstead was up the road in East Ham. And Superbike in Ilford. All gone now. Although Superbike the shop is still there I think with Redline and S&M stickers on the door.
Used Cycleone afew times when I got back into it, There gone aswell now.

when i started there wasn't much around so had to travel a bit, then there was Alpine sports with the bmx down in the basement; later it moved and became Alpine action.
halfords of course (good for tange forks and MX 1000s)
a shop in Downham that sold Mongoose and Diamond back
In 1982 i got a job in Chris Compton Cycles in Catford, SE London and got most of my stuff direct from the distributors
then in 85 i became the manager of Youngs bmx in London, so again i got everything i wanted from the shop or the distributors
