I say yes, but i tended to go with second hand or older good stuff rather than. I still do tbh, a five year old Ghia rather than a new L .

Our local shop was a Landar heaven, most of us decked out our Burners with there parts, two finger levers and Oakley copy grips etc...but when we got into it and were old enough to do paper rounds we saved up for top line parts, I had a TA with flights from Paper round money.

Landar has its place and the quality was not that bad.

30 years on its a bit late to question theyre place in BMX!  But Landar and 'Dai Yung' tires were always favorites for the but of our jokes.

We all used to take the piss out of these brands calling them 'imo' (imitation) - but then again we all had 'imo parts at some time or another! Landar seat clamps were very popular cos we would ride so far between riding grounds and golf clubs  >:D  that the seats would get highered and lowered all the time and of course we never had the correct sized allen key did we. Landar made cheap replacement clamps  :daumenhoch:

Again, in Harrogate we had a specialist BMX shop - BMX Specials, se we werent short of access to the quality branded stuff if we could afford it.

Without these brands we as kids probably would have been able to keep our bikes going :daumenhoch:

OK now we are older we want the best we can get for our bikes but they definately have a place in BMX History along with Lee Chi and other such copies  :4_17_5:

And it appears its getting like that again at the local eBay shop! loads more lesser brands being bought now as prices of premium brands go through the roof.

Is Landar the future of this hobby?

They certainly do have a place in BMX as they were a major seller bitd.  I think you just have to match like with like  :daumenhoch:.

Thank you for your comments guys.

Think I should re-phrase the question a bit differently........do they still have a place today, ie builds,  or is there an element of 'cheapo, you don't know what you're doing' :LolLolLolLol:

Think Marty is right re match like with like, but have no problems buying lower end items and say wacking em on a TA......yep I've no idea what I'm doing ;D  just love anything BMX related.

Always said an honest & true 80's build would be a TA a Ripper with burner parts on it. A new f&f with used parts on it.

Used to see bikes like this after someone had upgraded their f&f, probably after a load of saving up and probably a birthday!

When will someone build one of these? and for that matter when will they recieve any props for doing it!  :LolLolLolLol:

I use a Landar plate on my OS racer. It's the plate I used BITD and realy like being an inverted snob.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<see profile pic.

Personally I'd like to see more love towards the likes of Landar, Ammaco, etc.

My bike evolved from BURNER with Landar, formos parts etc into Rickman freestyler with aero zytecs.

BITD i really wanted a GT performer f and f but Rickman was £50 cheaper, wanted tuffs but got zytecs as they were £20 cheaper, thats how it was for me back then.

I used to swop parts and buy secondhand at Poole bmx meetings.

I actually bought a sst layback for £3 secondhand there, imagine what that would be worth now.

So yes landar etc deffo has respect.........

I had a few pairs of Landar pedals, in fact I still have a NOS pair in original Landar box. Wish I kept them really as had a few colours. Very nice looking pedals and look very similar to Skyway pedals.
I remember my local bike shop having a huge landar advert in the shop and sold it by the bucket loads. They were good quality at an affordable price.  :)  :daumenhoch:
