Polishing Alloy

anyone got any tips, or recomend the best type of machinery for a lazy ol git

A buffing wheel should do the trick. But if you want to polish a frame then I would recommend a hand held Dremel polisher for the hard to get at sections but for the main sections use a buffer

orb is right, a polishing wheel and a dremmel is a quick way to do it, i do have both, but always finish of by hand(fnar fnar), gives a great finish. work your way through the grits of wet and dry, till you get to somthing like a 1200 grit.
then, with a clean cloth go at it with autosol, then peek, then tcut, i always give my polished alloy a good coat of wax after too to try and stop it oxsidising(sp).
the results you can get by hand are amazing. ive polished lots of parts up this way, but most recently was a pro neck stem which i got from waxin, it wasnt looking too clever when i got it, but an hour or so's polishing i ended up with this......

i polished everything on my ripper using a 1400 rpm motor with polishing mop conversion or you could
get yourself a bench grinder and convert it to a polisher, try machine mart they do all you will need,it will save you a lot of elbow grease and in the long run alot of cash!!!!!!

yes steve they are chrome vinyl,i had them made by a guy who does our decals at work,i just wanted to do something a little bit different

I usually start with 100 grit wet n dry to get out any deeper marks and scratches and then wet n dry down the grades to 2000 grit. final sand is with a well used 2000 grit piece to get superfine scratches. Then 2 cream polishes to finish(autosol). I use a hard felt mandrel for the first cream polish and a soft lambswool mandrel for the final polish.
 I have a video if anyone wants to borrow it. It is proffesional polishing techiques by the CETEM finishing school. It shows you how to set up all the mops (sanding and polishing) on a bench mounted drill type system
