nearly finished 1st build - sneaky peek
« on: January 01, 2011, 02:15 PM »
after what seems like ages my bike is nearly ready
excuse crappy pics as I couldn't be bothered to set up an arty shot - just wanted to show where I'd got to while I wait for my chainring and tyres to appear

tyres are sorted (thanks to mr gashead  :daumenhoch:) going for haro whitewalls
could probably use some advice on what to do with the chainring/disc to improve the finish (anyone know about duralumin?)
here's a pic of the chainring

cheers

Nice one Griff.  Soon be finished  :4_17_5: Autosol or Duraglit will bring up the powerdisk a treat. :daumenhoch:

Are you riding it at Corby.

+1 on all counts  :daumenhoch:

Also, try Brasso on the power disk  :daumenhoch:

cheers guys for advice - never tried metal polishing before, got a makita cordless drill (quite chunky) do you think that would be any good to use with some kind of mop or would it be better to do it by hand? will try searching again in forum for threads on polishing anyway

hopefully will be here soon so I can see how they look in the metal but not sure yet if I will have it all finished by 15th

and I'm keeping the seat betty/marty ;D

Look at my restoring araya rims thread - you can use a drill but a bench grinder with mops is better - failing that send it me mate, I'll sort it for you...  :coolsmiley:

Looking good mate  :daumenhoch:

Personally I would change that seat/post combo though .

With regards the power disc if you want it mirror polished send it to Sid or use your drill clamped in a vice and get a polishing kit from www.thepolishingshop.co.uk or I think machine mart even do a basic kit now  ;)  If you just want to make it look newer but not over polished hit it with some 800/1200's wet and dry and then lightly autosol/brasso or peek it  :daumenhoch:

Looking forward to seeing it finished  :)

thanks a lot sid - since I'm only (for now at least) planning on having one bike a grinder + bench might be a bit of an expense
will see how it looks when it arrives and let you know, but if you can help that would be fantastic

cheers

griff

and still not changing the seat - I might start a 'friends of the Elina UL' thread  ;D

I love the Elina UL and had one back in the day. They were more desirable than a Kashimax where I lived. :daumenhoch:

Nothing against the Elina UL seat mate , got one on one of my builds   , just personally not keen on the snake post combo  ;)

It's your bike and you build it how you want , if everyone liked the same thing this site would be pretty boring  :daumenhoch:

to say I'm made up with the result is an understatement  :smitten: after a long monday at work this cheered me right up

have been in touch with Del the decal master so hoping to re-instate the lettering too

thanks again Sid!

cheers
