Had my first night out with the RADsters last week at Skate City, Blackpool, and had a blast, mate.  :D

First time in the saddle for 25 years and managed loads more than I expected.

A great bunch of peeps and a feeling that spreads a smile across your chops like a 1990 disco biscuit!  :daumenhoch:

Get yourself out on a RAD night and enjoy riding your kid's bike!  :daumenhoch:

Sorry I've had to bump this but are there any of us old guys down in the SW?  I use to race a little in the 80's and do a bit of freestyle but that was almost 25yrs ago, my 8yr old son has just got his first WTP new school bike and I'm feeling a little left out when I take him to the local skate parks.  Instead of sitting there I want to get myself a bike and have some fun too!!!

Theres a group of us in Bristol, all in out 40's, usually meet up at St George skatepark in Bristol most wednesday eves. Often on a weekend we will go for a town ride. I'll pop a few ground tricks & one or two of the others are learing a few moves, the others sit about chatting about how it used to be.

If your nearby then pop along, more the merrier  :)

Wow, I use to go to St Georges Skate Park 30yrs ago when I lived at Bristol, I'm surprised it's still there!!!

I'm down on the South coast but regularly work at Bristol so I may give you a shout on Wednesday if ok with you guys?

I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

If you rode St G park in the 80's then its not changed that much. The bridge has gone, the bowls have been built up a bit but the table top & camels are still there. The bit in the middle that was used as a run up for the table top is due to be demolished & rebuilt in the next couple of months.

Its a cool old school type park & as we all used to ride there back in the day its the perfect place to muck about. I remember Bob H & Mike D doing a demo there around 84, the kids are amazed that the mighy bob Haro once rode there  :coolsmiley:

Cool, does it matter what I ride as I've just bought a 22" Faction Amero?  It's not old school and not technically a traditional BMX but it feels ok after riding MTB's for years!!  It's in having some paintwork done at the moment, but should be ready in a week or two after Dan has worked his magic!!

I did build some old school bikes a few years ago: Skyway TA, Robinson Pro, EFF 24" and another freestyle bike.  Can't remember what it was called but the F&F cost about £30 from Shiners at Bristol!!!!  I wish I had kept them now looking at the current prices!!!!

Oldschoolracer let me know how younget on with the new Faction Almero as I have the Zeitgiest and love riding it, it's just a bit heavy!

As Ed said, we all ride a couple of times a month if we can fit it in at private sessions up here in the Sheffield / Leicester neck of the world and are mainly over 40 so keep riding if you can spare the time!
Still limping......

The Amero is quite a light frame/fork and if built up with the right components it makes quite a light bike.  I wouldn't say there is much difference in weight between the Amero and my sons 18" WTP Arcade.  My Amero is one of the pre-production prototype frames without the integrated seat clamp, so I'm guessing its a few years old now, should be mint when I get it back from Dan!!!!

Of course not mate, Im usually on my Haro sport, the others usually ride an aero reflex, skyway streatbeat, PK ripper, Quadangle, & a burner. Were there from around 6pm to 7.30ish & then were all knackered & bruised & want to go home for food & a sit down  :LolLolLolLol:

Restored my 87 Haro Master when I was 40 a couple of years ago.  Only ever did flatland - and can manage the odd fire hydrant to decade now, an undertaker or two, and some older stuff - even landed a double decade a few months ago.  Don't understand why I can't do exactly as I used to when I was 17.. ah well.. that age thing creeps up I suppose.  As Rosscoe and Lenny have said, stick with old school and just ride for a laugh

Nice, I'm impressed with these new skyways. I hammered mine yesterday and expected flex from this 17stone fatty, the tyre gave more! Tidy.

It hurts a lot more now mate! I read the other day that one of my old heros, Dave Vanderspek hung himself in 88. Out of respect I wanted to learn the Vanderroll.... for half hour on Sunday I rolled around on the grass in my back garden, man you should see the bruises on my belly, wife has great pleasure slapping me  :D

But its good fun  8)

 :daumenhoch:

loving this thread!

I was  40 this year and just started riding skateparks for the first time ever this may, having not ridden "in anger " since 1990 . The rampcity nights we arrange on here are fab, its great to be able to ride at your own pace , with lads the same age , all differing ailities , always a great craic, and the array of bikes is great too.  :) having an indoor park to oursleves is superb !  :4_17_5:

i ride newschool now , i had the epithany that many of us on here  have had , wouldnt ride an oldschool bike in a park now, so easier to (re)learn stuff without worrying about yer bike .

i fall off a lot ,  you dont bounce like you did when you were younger, but most of the time i ride i feel that i get a tiny bit better  , the thing that frustrates me the most is not getting out as much as i'd like , with work /family etc etc

Well after a couple of false starts due to work, family and the usual grown up stuff i've just started riding again at nearly 41  :)
I don't know what was better, still being able to do it or my sons face watching me try   ;D
