I have 2 new school 20" bikes and 1 cruiser and they all use 27.2mm posts Rob.
Redline race bikes use 26.8mm but their freestyle bikes use 25.4mm, SE use 27.2mm. So I don't think their is a standard size, it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Standard BMX freestyle frame size is 25.4mm.What make/model frame is the post for? As Sean says, there is no standard for race frames.
