GT Bars Question
« on: December 07, 2010, 08:08 PM »
Hi from a newbie ........

Can anyone tell from this pic if these bars are genuine GT (no sticker on crossbar) wot year and approx' wot they're worth. I blagged 'em off a mate and now he wants some dosh. Can't blame him but wanna fair deal for both of us who really have no idea apart from a mega expensive nos pair on Ebay. Give us time, just gettin' back into it the scene.........

Cheers,
Andy

Take the grips of and measure the width , they should be 28"

Going off the size of the crossbar they could be early pre 84 bars possibly , but would have no knurling on stem area

84 onwards have a wider crossbar and I think 2  lines of knurling (I think)

later 80's have "GT" stamped on the side tube

Survivor 80's  uncrushed (stem area) GT bars are worth from £40 ish to around £100 for NOS /mintys IMO on here

On Ebay make it up as you go

Cheers guys.

Just quickly popped out to the garage and measured width with (frozen!!) grips on, approx 27 1/2", crossbar approx' 11 1/2". No knurled section and no stamp.

Probably the worst O/S seat you can get  :-\ , sell it , bin it  , burn it , but don't use it  :D

If they haven't  been cut down they're probably not GT bars , but as Nick says , you can't tell at all from those pics really  :-\

but they don't look out of place , so keep em , to keep the cost of the build down  ;)

I was told you lot would hate the seat!!!!  ;D Just wanna build something as close to the one I had back in the early 80's. That had a Troxel Comet combo...... can't find one!!!

If ya wanna see pic of the Herald, its in 'Welcome' 'Another 42 yr old' thread, page 2. Hopefully you'll like it more than the seat!!!!  ;D
