Advice - changing the alloy hub in a tuff wheel
« on: April 28, 2006, 08:47 AM »
I am looking to swap a hub from one tuff to another, is it difficult to do?

Aren't the hubs riveted on??

Cheers

Paul

Yes they are. They are almost impossible to reproduce. I did say ALMOST! Everyone just uses bolts to replace them now. I done my first one back in 1980! Grind the heads off and punch them through.

Gotta make sure you grind off or drill off the original rivet head and not the end which was rivetted, since the rivetted end will have flared during the rivetting process and it's a bugg*r to try and pull this through the plastic and you also risk damaging the holes for the hub.
Drilling off the original rivet heads means you're pulling the wider rivetted end away from the hub as opposed to through it.

Does that make sense?

give me ten,

I will post up a scan of the guide how to do it.

Drilling is better than grinding though. I have done a few ;)

im thinking i could make some of those rivets, or supply material long enough to allow you to rivet both ends.
anyone interested in trying? id need the diameter(accuratly measured) of the material used :uglystupid2:

Dunno about the diameter exactly, but M4 threaded rod with a nyloc nut on each end has always got me out of a hole...
