Super Rider to Skyway TA Replica 100% finished - 19/11/10

A replica bike isnt to everyones taste i know, and I expect some heckling, but my intentions are good

This is a build for my 10yr old son, as a surprise extra xmas present this year. He really loves skyways, but i can never afford to get him one, so i picked up a pos Townsend BMX from VWFish's friend and away i went

Now he has already told me exatcly what his dream skyway would look like: this is his spec

white F&F
White mags
white gumwalls
chrome v bars
single tech 2 in blue
blue seatpost white saddle
blue chainguard
white pedals
blue grips with black foam!!!!!!

some of his choices are a little suspect, but its what he wants

So this is what i started with:





After a good strip down, the parts i can save are: The pedals, crank, frame, forks, brake cable, pad set, chainwheel and guard and mags, you will see later in the pics the clean up work

So far I have sourced

Chrome GT seat clamp
Blue fluted seatpost
seat of gold superchromed v bars, now stripped polished and minty mint
leo freestyler white gumwalls
dia compe bulldog brake for the rear
white tuff copy pads
blue grips with black foam!!!!!!
Blue tech 2 copy left hand lever
anno blue valve caps
White Iscaselle seat with yellow flash [this will be enamelled blue soon]
complete set of skyway decals

I'm still waiting for some of the part to arrive but its nearly all there now

The mags took little work to make minty white again, shame i cant afford skyways for it, but he's a;ready had a small fortune spent on him, this is a bonus, so a set of OGK style  Star X will have to do him for now

nothing wrong with a replica build, i had to sell my skyway ta so i decided to get the look on my rider.

love those custom graphics, great job, nice looking rider too, all my builds are riden, so really buying a proper skyway [if i could afford it] would be money down the drain as it would get wrecked

cheers fella, I really do enjoy turning trash bmx'a into something nice, I dont actually know whether I'd get that much satisfaction from restoring something that was actually any good!!

98% there now, just waiting on ebay for the back brake, and  the blue fluted seatpost








I have got the V bars as he requested, but if i cant reach the brake lever when its attached to V bars, neither will he, but the options there if he wants them

painted the saddle last night, still needs another coat and some polishing, but looks great in blue
