new skool parts on old skool bikes??
« on: November 15, 2010, 10:18 PM »
why do people do it?? i can see logic in chains for example, they take alot of abuse, bars maybe cause there pretty personal choice, even new redlines on old skool bikes, i can see that too cause the originals are fk me expensive, why people but things like intense tyres on?? why why why it just looks shit. ok im gonna crawl back in my hole

I've put some 'non year correct' bits on my '85 haro, but nothing that i'd call new school - apart from a pair of sealed bearing tuffs
figured that since my original bike from bitd (an 82 silverfox) had stuff I added over the few years that followed, it doesn't bother me at all

back then I called them upgrades  :daumenhoch:

I was going to go for haro tyres but after reading your post I had a look for intense tyres as I'd never heard of those before
wonder what they'd look like?   ;D

We'll know - you'll win by 22 bike lengths rather than the usual 20!

I tried to keep mine with OS type bits eg repop Comp IIIs, DX type pedals when I always ran DXs in the 80s. Only thing I couldn't do was keep normal grips from slipping round my rusty dinged bars, so I had to use lock-on grips. No major advantage though, unlike NS tyres...

i agree with you Oggy on the tyres, comp 3s look the part and are adequate, and i agree about the cranks
most good quality old school parts will be more than upto the job on a race bike :daumenhoch:
comp 3 s should be the law for o/s racing though :police:

It is you bike, do what you fooking want to it I say.

The only thing that I cannot fathom, is when people put modern parts on a oldschool bike, enter it in a Show and Shine competition and then moan when they don't get placed.  If you are entering S&S then the only thing that will make the bike stand out is to use original era correct parts, surely that is a given?

I must have seen a shed load of bikes on here without 100% era specific parts on so to me the topic of the thread implies that many many bikes on here are shit  ???
Surely that is out of order?  :-\

Knowing Oggy I think he is referring to the OS race bikes and not the S&S
