TA Cranks
« on: November 06, 2010, 03:51 PM »
I'm not familiar with these at all but thinking about using a set i got hold of.  I've tried looking on here and the museum and cant find nowt about them.  google don't have much in the way of using them on BMX either.
Can anyone give me a bit of info .. years they were used, different types etc ..
Anyone got pics of them on a bike?
Cheers  8)

I pretty sure Pete had a set on a mini free agent he was selling at MK

Here some examples. Made in France from what I remember

I had a pair of 170 or 175mm TA's with the same chainwheel as that on my Scorpion ZX300 frame,

Pic is from Perry Park in 84, i suspect they had been around for years before any one started using them in bmx and a nice thing about them, like Mavic 1.5's, would have been influenced by the european scene rather than USA  :daumenhoch:

They were used on mostly mini's i've got them on a few builds and a full set of all the lengths  :coolsmiley:

The chain rings are a bit harder to get hold of, especially the @egg@ chainrings that alot of the higher profile riders used  :daumenhoch:

Bloody hell ......that is alot to make up... If I was still in my old profession I would have turned you up a nice billit one piece spacer for that fella  :-\

There must be some one on here that could do that for ya  ??? if not a local engineering company...

Why not just buy a new square taper bb with the correct length spindle and use that, they come in different axle lengths. :daumenhoch:

Why would you need spacers? surely the arms will only do up on the tapers and go no further??? (or is it square drive and not tapered?)

The beauty is in it's ugliness, just like the frame and all VDC's, that's why we love them so much ;)
