HAWK F20 XXL with homemade JR forks!!!

heres a pic of something ive been working on. i got this hawk xxl frame and thought i'd dress it in some homemade cnc stuff. 

this frame is suuuupeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrr long, i think i'm gonna get hold of some 22" rims and make some hubs for them for this bike.


since buying this frame ive also bought an F20 XL frameand an F20 frame not to mention the HAWK F20 Jr ive got and the F24 ive had for a few years, looks like the family is expanding.

heres another pic of the forks with the little ripper in the background, its nearly done by the way



the forks aren't finished yet, they still need top caps and dropouts making, the carbon tube was just some off the shelf carbon tube i found online, i used a set of hanebrinks to take measurements from.

One question Joe, is the cnc very expensive to make?

cheers guys, and Dan - it was matts JAD that made me wanna do these forks, cant beat a set of hanebrinks. well you can, carbon JR forks.

yeah the CNCing is a fare bit, at my old place i used to use the machines all the time but now and especially with ally i have to ak someone to do the machining after ive done the CAD, and he charges me, not full rates but enough

How have you (or are you) attached the hub axle to the bottom of the carbon tubes?

Awesome as always Joe. Can I ask where you got the carbon tube though? I am after some to make a seat post you see.

The dropouts which I haven't done yet will be an ally turning with a slot in it. I've made some curved washers to put in-between.

The tubes from Carbonology, google it. They've got a few sizes but it's not cheap. I had to buy a metre for these forks and it was about 75 quid.

Cheers mate. That's who I'd been looking at but the tubes they stock have too small a wall thickness for a seatpost. Do you know anyone else?

BTW did you do anything special to protect the carbon if you cut or drilled it, to stop it delaminating? Any special tricks or techniques?

hawks were built for them forks  thats my kinda ride dude, love it

i just band sawed it and it was fine. should be alright i reckon, but i dont need to do any drilling anyway. they need to be made a bit shorter and the dropout bits will be bonded in.

you could try it for a seat post, its pretty tough and the wall thickness looks pretty sturdy to me.
