Greetland & Bondina BMX Track and Club
« on: April 26, 2006, 04:17 PM »
Anyone remember the Greetland & Bondina BMX Track and Club??  Seen it mentioned on here on a post...  The most famous members were the Duffy family who had works Hutch bikes with redline flights etc..etc.  Went the club for years and helped to build the track out back of the club house on some moorland.  Drove up to have a look the other day and parts of the track are still there.  Mainly used by kids on motorbikes.... walking round those memories came flooding back...

Would be cool to speak to someone who went to the club or raced the track...

Wonder if we could get the track rebuilt to its former glory?????

Cheers

Reggie

Hi mate

I went to have a look up there at the back end of last year and like you say not much of it left except a little track round that was used by kids on mini quads and very overgrown with trees and bushes.
I raced there a few times both in NE regionals and YH regionals. Ashley Duffy was the same age as me and I knew him and raced against him for quite a few years.
Have you got any old pics as it is one of the only tracks from BITD that I havent got any pics of

Stuff it, this is better than getting ready for work
Not many pics, and you can't see much of the track :(
Have got some races on DVD, will try and get some stills to post up.

Grr...tried resizing, it's not having any of it!

Can just see fellow team mate Steven Hibbert to the right here (can see bit of his face on my pic, but not on here!) and another RVR member, Paul Barlow in the red jacket.

I have great memories of Greetland and Bondina...... when you raced the comentator lost you in the fog as you hacked into the fisrt and last corners! On really thick fog days it was getting difficut to find you way! Hehe.

Also remember racing Phil Warburton (Crusty) pedaling all the way over the line in the open final and crashing as we hit the finsh line ladies or the caravan! Cant remember which! not that the finish line ladies were big or built like a caravan or anything like that!
It was foggy on that day to.

i raced there too :) what year are those pics sam?

it was either 150degrees HOT, or windy as **** and pouring with rain!!! haha what a great place, and some many memories

i always thought it was a hard track, (and not just because of the weather!) all those heather roots growing through, and so much dust... or mud

and Joyda race gear was definately the thing to have (i've still got mine!!!!! 8)

This track sounds familier, is it any where near Halifax,. am I thinking of the right track,  when I used to visit my grandparents in Yorkshire, my dad used to take me to a track somewhere near to practice on,  maybe somewhere else though ????

I suppose I could google to find out, but I am sure someone can answer without me looking in to to it any further ????

Me also, Greetland was running whilst we were based 'darn sarf'; but I practised on it a couple of times when we returned to God's Country during holidays etc. Same for Harrogate and the old Bradford track at Myra Shay. We did manage to race at Yeadon a few times though.
