just had a email from Cllr. Paul Varnsverry Northampton Borough Council
At the Northampton Borough Council cabinet meeting on Wednesday 3rd November, the cabinet will be asked to approve the provision of £250,000 toiwards a Northampton skate park. See:
http://www.northamptonboroughcouncil.com/councillors/mgConvert2PDF.as...px?ID=15053

Anyone who wishes to speak in support of this funding must telephone 01604 837101 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 01604 837101 end_of_the_skype_highlighting or email democraticservices@northampton.gov.uk before 12 noon on November 3rd.

It is a public meeting, so members of the skateboard and bmx community who wish to show their support for approval of the funding are recommended to be there. The meeting starts at 6 pm in the Jeffery Room at Northampton Guildhall.

ANYONE THAT LIVES NEARBY AND THAT CAN SHOW SOME SUPPORT WOULD LOVE TO SEE YA THERE  :daumenhoch:

Stick a thread on BMx Talk as well.

There are some older race boys in the Northampton area that would support this for sure.

further update to this from the council cabinet meeting last night:
Thanks for everyone for coming along to the meeting tonight, The skatepark took up a large part of the agenda of the corporate plan, with some great positive feedback from most councillors / parties and some very ill informed comments from some parties (Independent party we will need at least 4 million pounds to build a park !!!) Up side is the budget was given a 100% vote, so the £1/4 milion is now confirmed for 2011 / 2012 budget, so we should have a free outdoor concrete park to use by easter 2012. This is first steps though as We now intend to match fund the £1/4 million to make a grand total of £1/2 milion pounds. We need your support so keep checking for updates.

Who's the builder?

Please make sure that the users have full control over the design. There's too many shite concrete parks in this country already.

You'll only get this money once.....

Mmm that's different. It's quite open. I'm not sure yet. Looks like it will suit the skateboarders more than bmx. But stage two might be good. So we can hope.  :)

Been down for a peek a few times myself, have to agree with Stu about the skate thing . Unless your a technical rider (not like me!) then i cant see it being any good for bikes. The quarters are tiny with only about 2 1/2ft ledges on top! Not knocking the place as its amazing that Northampton has at last got something and the lads who have sorted it all need a fooking medal.
Lets hope they  eventually build phase 2 :daumenhoch:
