NS PROFILE STEM HELP - PLEASE !
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:05 PM »
I am totally NEW to NEW SCHOOL Set Ups,

I've got a Profile Clamp On Stem, exactly like this one in the link..., with the pinch bolts,

http://www.vitalbmx.com/product/guide/Stems,18/Profile/ClampOn-Stem,154

However it is VERY tight getting it over the Fork steerer tube? The forks are un-threaded 1 & 1/8th inch Pre-Fuji LG's

I thought it would just slide over, tighten the bolts and hey presto, but am I either supposed to bang it on with a mallet, use a special tool or try to pull it apart somehow? The stem was 'used' but mint, so it may need prising apart to get it on the forks?

Help before I make a hash of this... ;)

Thanks

might be easier to fit if you temp fit the bars to it first. I've had a few profile stems and they have been tight.

I fitted the bars. tapped the stem onto the forks with a rubber mallet and then just moved the bars side to side until it worked its way down.

did you buy it on bmxtalk the other day.

If the bolt is long enough, Put it in from the threaded side with a 5p or 10p in the slit. Tighten the bolt onto the coin just enough to push the stem slightly open.Allowing the stem to be pushed on.
Hope that makes sense, If not PM me your number and I'll give you a call and try and talk you through it.
