ok peeps today's topic is restoring a chainring & disc, made of steel from what I've been told in here

pic here
http://www.tntairsoft.com/bike/DSCN0947.JPG

will be on the way from thailand at some point soon - anyone have any tips on how I can get them back to somewhere near their original condition? (steel too tough for autosol?)

cheers

tonight's topic - chain recommendations  :-\

toss-up between

Izumi nickel plated
KMC Z510HX
KMC s10 stainless

is the stainless one any good or more suitable for a show bike only? much difference in quality between KMC/Izumi?
I've no idea so any advice appreciated (also on yesterday's question  :daumenhoch:)

cheers

griff

[edit] just found one of the s/s ones for a tenner in the uk here -
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CHKMS10-SIL-18/kmc-s10-inox-stainless-chain---silver---1-8-in

111 links long enough?

Griff - you are best posting questions a new topic - gets more attention  :daumenhoch:

Are you gonna be riding his quite a bit then?

I got an izuni nickel plated chain from alans for my bike and its been great - if you are buying a new chain it will 'usually' be 'overlong' so I'm sure you will have enough links

( took the hint btw )

thanks for the tip Ed - was trying to avoid spamming the board all the time and confine my newbie questions in one thread  ;D

saw that KMC one on Porkchop site described like this 'When people ask for the "best quality BMX chain, that will look good on an old school build" this is the one we recommend.' and was on at $19.99 + delivery, just wondered how they stacked up vs Izumi as thats the only chain make I can remember from bitd

probably not going to be riding that much, but definitely not building this just to look at!

cheers

griff - got mine here - Porkchop is great but you gotta figure the postage in from the US.. not that cheap.

I got my izumi here...

http://www.alansbmx.com/product_info.php?cPath=116_134&products_id=1889

its a really nice chain if you ask me.

I'd list all your questions separately as it helps others find the answer if they have the same question...  :daumenhoch:

you're not wrong - when you add a chain into the basket from porkchop the postage goes right up (that's why I was asking about the stainless KMC since I can get one for £10 all in)
will probably use porkchop for some ame rounds though and maybe a few small (and light) bits - cheapest I've seen anywhere so far even with the postage!

cheers

of course... duh.

Still reckon they would be cheaper off ebay than Porkchop... unless you find some other people wanting stuff and combine the postage.

You could always drop a post in Wanted as people change colours all the time - you never know  :daumenhoch:
