OK,
I Have a dilema  :-\ I got a lovely CW Cali which I'm about to get powdered in this:

http://www.roseyspowdercoating.com/candy-transparent/candy-wine-100-gloss-1-lb.html

The frame and bars I've stripped back to bare matel, so is now in an ideal condition to have chromed.
I spoke with Dan about laying the Candy Wine Red over the chrome to get proper bling bling and keeping the bars chromed, but I'm really having a problem justifying the cost of chroming the frame just to powder over the top. I know the finish if I went this would be just supurb, and Dan says that the finish with his Chrome Silver powder underneath would be good, but with the chome underneath the colour would be deeper.

You thing its worth spending £160 + on getting the frame chromed  :-\

Wot would you lot do  ???

To be honest if I was having it Chromed it would stay Chromed.  So for me it would be powder or Chrome not both :daumenhoch:

Brett, I've got to be honest I'm leaning the same way as you, but then Dan puts up this thread with an image of some green rims near the bottom of the page with have are Candy Green over chrome .....gets me thinkin again  :smitten:

The wheels do look sweet but I don't think they would look much different on bare metal and Dans Chrome Silver powder underneath.

I think only you will know what you will be happy with.

I like perfection but would be going for the perfect Chrome and leaving it there.

If you can warrant the extra cost then go for it but personally I would either Chrome or Powder not both.

Fook  :knuppel2: why does money have to come into everything  >:(

Does the candy powder adhere to the chrome as well as it does on top of the silver powder?  If the powder base/candy top coat is more durable than chrome/candy and less likely to chip off I would go with that and save yourself throwing another £160 at a kids bike.   :crazy2:

I was gonna go the exact same route as you with my DP - chrome powder with candy red over - but I was gonna use this candy...

https://www.pendrypowdercoatings.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=94

Once I saw Juans GJS freestyler in the Old School mag I was smitten... thats got the candy over a beautiful chrome job and it is one of the sexiest finishes I have ever seen... ( will try and find an online pic ) but if you do the candy over the chrome powder it won't be as lush. I could no way afford to chrome it then powder it so I took a different route.

But everytime I see that GJS I fall in love again  :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Ed,
Its that fooking article of Juans GJS that has got me thinking about this  :2gunsfiring_v1:
That bike looks so fookin lush, I rekon the backdrop to the photos has a little to do with it but the finish to the frame is unbelievable  :daumenhoch:

I know man... I was EXACTLY like you  >:D - I thought I could do a one-off DP in the candy and it would be the sickist thing ever... so I got talking to Dan... but everything he showed me just didn't have that same depth that the GJS has... it is just amazing.

So once I told myself theres no way I could justify spending money on a chrome then paint I got back on my mission to get a closer match to my original DP ltd colour... BUT EVERYTIME I READ THAT FOOKIN MAG I JUST DRIBBLE ON THE PICTURES  :smitten: :smitten:

here's an idea.....have a word with Dan and send him a couple of old seatposts or something.  one in chrome with the candy over the top and the other with the two coats of powder and see what you think of them both?

 ???

Its a good idea but the outcome will be obvious... the chrome one will be better... so the bigger question is if you have the cash!

PS. I have 2 x bent chrome odyssey laybacks in my bin and I'm about to send a parcel to Dan - I can chuck them in if you want? just drop Dan a line and let him know whats happening  :daumenhoch:

obviously the chrome one will come out better.you'd have to be an idiot not to already know that. but it will at least lets him see if its £180 worth better than the chrome powder and wasting a lot of money on something that aint got a lot in it.
