Greg if its just a small piece of plate steel you are welding onto a frame I wouldnt worry about it being cromoly any steel would do . what thickness are you after I might be able to help with some plate steel   :daumenhoch:

1.3 or 1.4mmthick and about 3 or 4 inch square .was just thinking rest is chromo so different metals when welding might have different weld/heat resistance temperatures?

cant wait for this to turn up from the usa get it welded and ready for the summer series .gonna ride it like i stole it lol

Id go for mild steel plate aswell as the welder will most likely use a mild steel wire A15(ers70-s2) for the welding. A 4130 welding wire is only used on 4130 when the job is going through a heat treatment process post fabrication so that the whole job contracts and expands at the same rate (in theory).

Let me rephrase.  What I meant was, will mild steel have the nice "over lapping coins" appearance when welded?  Most mild steel shite frames, burners etc have really shitty looking welding.  Like toothpaste squeezed out of a tube.

AFAIK

toothpaste = MIG

overlapping coins = TIG
