updated 8/9/10 with more pics now brakes and chain sorted see page 2
when i first started thinking about getting a bmx again for old times sake i wanted a pk ripper but at that time i couldn't find one so got a mongoose, then a redline proline the a 90's pk, then a haro freestyler, then i bought a bike purely for the shimano dx cranks on it and it was an expert bike with 1 3/8ths wheels on , so i thought i'd try them on my 90's ripper and due to the narrow oval tubing i thought the skinny wheels looked really good so i thought these and the dx cranks are going on a loopy ripper, i wanted a polished frame really but saw steve P's black looptail ripper on here and i couldn't resist and steve p sorted me out with a few other trik bits
, so my intention was to put all the lightest weight parts on it possible , the hardest things to find was the bars as i wanted the aluminium bars and i raggily found these powerlite probend alu race bars in 27 inch wide by 8 inch rise and they only weigh about a pound, only thing left to get is a long enough chain as the one on it is a bit short as came off a mini bmx
bike specification
pk ripper looptail frame with unstamped lg fork in black
ukai 1 3/8 alloy rims with radial spoked front wheel with mavic sealed alu hubs, comp 3 tyres blue/green/silver label
shimano dx 3 piece alloy crank, tuf neck chain ring
kkt lmx magnesium pedals
hutch dougnut alloy seat clamp
troxel 650 seat and integrated post
mx 1000 brake and tech 3 lever
hutch deep h racing stem
early powerlite probend aluminium race bars 27" wide with 8 inch rise
oakley b2 grips with blue dougnuts

Put some might lite forks and an uni seat on it and it's even lighter.

thanks yeh i was thinking of a uni seat pro but in fairness the troxel with integrated seatpost is very light anyway but as said the forks weigh a ton so that would make a massive difference so might consider it

yeh peter its a suicide brake if you use it it takes all the spokes out , speed was the objective
, i'll sort the cable out ,eeeeeeee you lot are picky
, the wheels came off an 80's expert size race bike which i whipped the dx cranks off also

i like it, looks fast
would have to add a link or 2 to the chain and pull that rear wheel back a bit tho ( would prob sort out the reach prob on the mx1000 as well if you also move the brake block up a bit
)

Why does everyone now run them with the brake on top?
When I had mine about 81 it was allways underneath.

thanks a lot everybody glad to get the approval of the old school community
i,ve really enjoyed doing it, i may end up like sam (meticulous) above with load of bikes amazingly i have amassed 6 bikes now in one form or another its a really addictive hobby and not cheap but at least theres no running costs like a car
, just a supply of pies to keep the pedals going, only other things i might change is the seat to a black uni seat pro and i might try some race forks on it like the bottema as the only thing on the bike which is weighty is the landing gear forks, i'll weigh the bike at some point but the wife has no scales in the house
done the last few bits fitted a full size chain got a secondhand izumi super v track chain and pulled the wheel back a bit, really nice quality chain in gold and black for 15 quid which really keys in the gold and black and sorted brake out
Oi big man what you doing on this pic (storm the british bulldog of the cat world)

i'm amazed that the rear brake reaches the rim with the wheel pulled back so much, the wheels must be slightly bigger than 20in....
not so sure i like the idea of the wheel that far back, it sure doesnt look right, but i suppose it will give you that bit more stability when racing...

i think i've been watching too many episodes of american chopper, yeh the skinny wheels although still classed as 20" are actually bigger rim diameter so brake reaches easy , i know what you mean with the wheel so far back i suppose i could take a link or two out of the chain but i don't think it will be a weak spot being a bit farther back would it
