Stunt peg removal help

Never used stunt pegs in my day so not sure how they're fixed and need to remove them to get to the axle nuts They're hollow so can see the nuts so i'm thinking they're secured by the axle nuts and will need a long socket extension, does this sound right? Or are they just stuck over the top and need a good smack with a hammer??

You are right they are held on with the nuts
