i no its not technicaly tec or restoration but it is one of my steps so here goes  , does anyone have any idea or rough price to ship a bmx from the states to the uk ?? just so i dont get totaly mugged off , thanx

I've paid from $50 - £140......but thats becuase I really wanted it fast

Frame and forks or full bike ?

Go to the USPS website and use "priority international" service - you'll have to guess-timate the weight including packaging but it will give you an idea.

I'd say......

Frame & Forks around $70

Full bike around $150+

If you use a courier such as UPS / DHL it will be waaaaaaaaay more !

I just sent frame forks , bars , headset and pads
In one box to Thailand insured for £500

Cost me £114 and it got there in four days
And that was through the post office

So I wouldn't expect to pay anymore than that

I paid a $100 go frame and forks. Watch out for customs charges though they cost me another £100 on a $400 frame and forks

The seller has to mark down the value of the item on the customs slip of the parcel.

You are only allowed certain allowances for importing goods into the country.......

These allowances may have increased slightly - haven't checked the customs site for a while but as a guideline........

Up to £18 value = no charge

Up to £36 value and marked as "GIFT = no charge

Above these values and NOT marked as GIFT = 17.5% VAT + 5% DUTY + £8 "handling fees"

Above these values and marked as GIFT = 17.5% + NO DUTY + £8 "handling fees"

Others may disagree with this info from their own experiences but having imported a sh!t load of stuff from the states in the last 2 1/2 years this is my personal experience of what you can confidently get away with / or not as the case may be 

Occassionally things just slip through the net and there's no charge when there should be but those are few and far between now

A couple of years ago I had whole bikes making it through with no charge....... not any more

Well you can get the seller to mark the value down on the package and mark as GIFT ($50 + GIFT usually does the trick) but then you run the risk of it going missing and only being covered for $50  depends on the value of the item really and how much you want to risk.

I often go half way value mark down on an expensive item - means I have to pay some fees but not mega and I'm partially covered from loss 

Your call really...........

Oh and some sellers just won't do it 

The worst is when they put down the TOTAL value on the form i.e. item value + postage cost and then you really get screwed

ive got away with a whole bike before, deleverd straight to my door and ive also been but fooooked by customs so much they had a vip acount for me  now i wont buy from the states anymore except for small stuff, saying that i paid a nifty customs charges on a £30 seat  there CNUTS mate
