Ok guys a few of you know of this build but ive been trying to keep it quiet for about a year or more now as i wanted it to be thee build to top off my collection .

I got it from Bendycat and it was in a right sorry state with rust and pitting and worst of all the R gussets mising  .

At first i was going to paint or powder it and build a custom as i thought it was going to be almost impossible to return to its former glory seeing as its virtually imposible to get one of these to factory spec as there are so many hard to find items , But thats when i decided to set myself a challenge and knew it had to be a full blown , best as i can resto and as close to spec as i could possibly get.

Its taken me over a year now i reckon to restore & source everything but i am 99.9% there specwise. I really could not wait to build this bike as its sat in my office teasing me for months now   .

The first thing i had to do was sort the R gussets . bendycat kindly made me an exact paper template traced off his one .  So i paid a guy to do me an autocad drawing to get them laser cut , unfortunately he didnt seem to understand the importance of having them EXACT so i had to start myself and draw them up to be cut . Once i had the drawings right it was off to the local engineering firm to get some cut.   I must say i was blown away with how they turned out and they were cut in the same thickness etc as the originals .

Next i had to call on local TIG welding genious 'Junior ' who was good enough to come over to mine and do a totally awesome job of tig welding them paying special attention to having the welds as near original as he could .

once the gussets were sorted it was off to Buttsbikeshop who as always made a stunning job of it .  He chemically stripped the F&F and bars , repaired the chewed rear dropouts so they are now minty and then nikel plated and rechromed it .   When it arrived back i was Stunned with how good it was and was amazed at the quality of finish hed got on the chrome.

meanwhile i trawled here , Rad and ebay for all the bits . I wanted nos bits as much as possible so it would be really nice .   The wheels were sent to paul at CCA who done a superb job on the colourchange from gold to blue anno and with beautifully mirror finish sideshines .  Thanks to russJ who done me proud on leaving the seat as new also .

I was having a real nightmare trying to find a pair of large flange blue Suzue hubs as id accepted the fact that i wont ever get a set of raleigh stamped ones .  Then one morning out of the blue i get a message from Glynn saying he'd seen a set at MK10 and bought them for me as he knew the trouble i was having finding them . Thank You so much Glynn mate i owe you one

good job there. I built one like that a few years ago with a mate. It took bleading ages to get all the bits and its still not 100% correct. If Id have seen those hubs at MK10 Id have snapped them up.

Thanks mate .   Even if you do hate burners the rare factor of these makes them ultra special . At present there are only 39 or 40 of these that are known of in existance .

That bike is amazing,a guy gave me a Tuff Burner a couple of months ago, he said 2 weeks before he new i was into os bmx`s he threw away another frame, his description was "it was shiney, but really rusty so i chucked it at the tip,it had a letter  R in a cut-out near the handlebars".How gutted was I.

That is awesome.  Lovely work from Jonathan again.  :daumenhoch:

I read the bit about the hubs but I wasn't sure if you said Glynny had found the Raleigh stamped or hubs or the standard Suzue ones, though.
