Bit of advice needed please....
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:08 PM »
Won a pair of White Mike Buff Z-Rims on ebay at the weekend and they turned up today....

Both rims have a couple of cracks around the area where the spoke holes are....

Nothing major, but I'm wondering whether I should ask for a refund or not?

They were described as 'Survivor condition' which I guess, can cover a multitude of things, but there
wasn't any mention of cracks in the description....

What would you do?

Would I be able to find a better pair of rims?

I take it I won't be able to repair the cracks?

Cheers guys!

 :)

Here goes:

Seems like there is a hairline crack running around the centre of a portion of the rim.....Very faint, but it's there....

I would be thinking how muck were they and can you use them in that condition.  Would you have paid that if the add had said cracked.  I would be going for the refund if it was me as I would not want to show them or ride em.  It is your call though :daumenhoch:

i think the survivor bit he put on the ad might cover them.
its always as well to ask plenty of questions when buying old used stuff.
i've had a few bits that were far from what was advertised.

It should cost no more than £8.50 to return them in the UK if you use DHL std delivery on Parcel2go website. (tracked and insured up to £50)  You have to cover the return postage but the original postage should be refunded as the seller shouldn't have sold you a fecked set of wheels in the first place - or he should have mentioned the damage at the very least.  I doubt anyone bought a frame that was described as 'survivor' condition only to find that it was cracked would swallow that so why should a wheelset be any different.   ???

I would return them personally as they're neither use nor ornament in that state...

They look like stress fractures more that cracks......

Do the spoke nipples have any washers behind them ?
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

Yes for faulty/damaged items but a dodgy seller would have a whinge about it.  Sellers who want to keep their feedback intact usually play the game - remember, you can neg him but he can't return the favour so you have the upper hand in this situation. ;)  There should be more info about that on eBay or Paypal.
