Kenny Roberts--latest bike
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:28 AM »
Back in the stone age, I had the pleasure of meeting and watching Kenny Roberts ride at Laguna Seca.  He left a great impression on me.  Not much later, I remember seeing a Kenny Roberts bike at one of the races.  To this day, it has been one of my favorite bikes.

Fast forward a few years.  Every time I went to Dan Goins' place I secretly eyed the killer KR he had sitting in the corner.  After a few trips, I begged, implored and groveled to give me the chance to build such a historical bike.

He finally loaned me the frame and lo and behold, it took me forever to get it built but when I came across some Czechoslovakian made 70s Barum tires, I knew it had to be done.

As everyone knows, Dan is one of the best guys out there and I appreciate given the opportunity to put together his bike

Kenny Roberts frame
Speedo Fork
Weinmann 2.125 rims

Asahi Heavy duty spokes
Barum Tires
Takagi crank, spider and sprocket
Lyotard pedals

DID chain
Shimano large flane Coaster brake rear and Large flange front
Ashtabula Stem
Ariaki "Jaguar" Saddle

Schwinn Seat Clamp
Unknown bars, post and grips

The tires for some reason remind me of the old Class C tires that made Kenny famous.  I can still see him gunning the huge 750 around the San Jose Mile

Again, thanks my friend. and thanks to Chris at Alpha Bikes in Vista for providing the tires and help in getting the frame and fork back to life

Now the hard part is going to be getting him the bike back! :)
