I'm sure it's not but...

I was fed up of seeing fixies and fed up of being overtaken by mountain bike's, racers and folding bikes.
I still ride my 20 inch alot, but for long distances I'll ride this.

I've been working on this for quite some time, the sketches started about 2 and half years ago, but thanks to Mark Noble who hooked me up with a quality manufacturer, I received some prototypes earlier this year.

The idea behind it is to make a BMX which can beat fixies to the pub- Plus I wanted the cruiser to have identical geometry to a modern BMX so the bike remains responsive and manuals are easier.

I commissioned Seb Lester, an ex flatland rider and one of the best type designers in the UK to design the graphics.
and if design is your thing there's a story about it on the Creative Review website

The frame is in prototype stages at the moment, I have a handful available

What's everyones thoughts on this before it faces the onslaught :2gunsfiring_v1: of the 'less considered' forums.

Thanks for comments guys.
Dark Sunday
good point- on not wanting to like it
For me- it's not in anyway meant to replace a 20 inch - as nothing can in my opinion.
but it's a hell of a lot closer than any or these ridiculous 'fixie feels just like a bmx' claims.

I've rode it in the bowl at Cantelowes and it feels alot like my 20inch (as it's the blueprint for the geometry).
The adaption from a 20 is pretty seamless.- but I won't be replacing my 20 anytime soon.

I only have a couple of prototypes at the moment, but if you're ever in the area, you're welcome to have a go on it.

Meticulous
you're right the seat sucks for comfort, i've just bought a slim padded seat for it.

Sweebeats, yep I wanted it pretty tight and responsive, and I'm loving the tanwalls at the moment

Voivod
the quality and metals share the same quality manufacturing as Deluxe BMX.
It wasn't designed for Dan Lacey style 3s down a 20 step but it's certainly designed to hold up to a minimum of smooth airing and jumping.
re the caliper- I wanted to keep the bike as sleek as possible, (I was almost even tempted to go for a 1inch headset, then I woke up)
I've found double pivot calipers really strong performers, nice and compact.

The other week when you told me you were working on this bike i had NO clue what you were saying. But seeing it now it all makes sense. Its really nice, and I totally get what you mean, riding into town fast but still able to hop around and get the front wheel up. I use a 24" BMX for a similar thing but its got big comp3s on it and its not very fast. I have thought a few times about "slickin" it up; the clean good looks of a "fixie" (but without the idiot riding it) and all the fun of a BMX.

I like it loads, nice one  :daumenhoch:

good to hear from you Jim,
no price yet, but certainly cheaper than a decent road bike

looks good :daumenhoch:

i ride a flat handle bar road bike to work everyday (20 mile round trip)

they can be ridden like a bmx it just takes a little more effort/control, hopping up and down kerbs is easy aswell as wheelies and my manuals are getting better, no footied nose wheelies to a stop at the traffic lights is next :D :D :D

its quite funny when i pass a lycra clad roadie's then hop off the kerb then hop back up into a manual, then look back and watch them bump both wheels up the kerb :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Seems to be to be a solution looking for a problem.

This is just a bmx with big wheels.  There are already cruisers for that, and if you want a fast bike, you get a racing/hybrid frame - ergonomically, they just work better. Off road ? Cyclocross.  If you want a shorter easier geometry, you get an mtb or a cruiser. You want to go quick but comfy, get a hybrid.

Who is this aimed at exactly? A Bmx that, er can't bmx, or a racer that, er can't race.

What is the point of a chunky, heavy frame, overbuilt frame and adding 700c wheels? And surely not to go with the design ethic, theyre not 23's are they? You want speed, but this thing with the need for 100+psi will be blowing pinch/snakebite flats every ride. Its like putting lipstick on a pig.   Even 650c wheels might work better.  It's like you thought of the problem of wanting bigger wheels and a chunky frame and instead of inventing the mtb, because that was 30 years ago, you got all thr wrong answers and came up with this.

Dont get me wrong, its a funky design, but in much the same way as my idea for a convertible submarine....

If somes got an mtb for off road or a cruiser for off road/bmx duties, and a hybrid/road bike for other duties,  then the cyclocross niche already fulfills slight off road with big wheels.  Who is actually going to pay money to add to this if they already got 2-3 bikes (like me) or to the point, who's going to ditch one of those, for this.  You can stick skinny tyres or rims on many mtb's. Even my Orange p7 will accomodate them. Whats this do that anOrange p7 single speed  with 650 or 700cs and long rigid forks do?

I like it, but it isn't the answer to anything, nor will it sell well or make you a decent return on your investment imho.

But if you believe, don't listen to the naysayers like me.

Now, if you can make me an old school, chrome plated, gussetted looptail 24 or 26, like the fabled but rarely sighted Diamond Back cruisers of the early 80's, then your talking.

well, i like it. And i could imagine enough others, too, to make this skinny bomber -- ED209 hit it-- gain some airspace
----the rebirth idea i like; don't understand why it hasn't been done since a long time already

at first sight on the first pic it looked dark grey-blue -very nice

range at last !! now nothing can stop us !!!!  ;)
