Removing star fangled nut?
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:10 PM »
Whats the best way too remove one of these?
Just had my forks powdered by Dan and got a new headset. The headset comes with a FSA Conix top cap which doesn't use the SFN. Is there a easy way to remove it without bashing it all the way through and possibly damaging my new powder job as it comes out the bottom. Or should I just re-use my old top cap and SFN. Or just bash it far enough down to be out of the way :-\

fiddly job ,but i did it with some long nose pliers and bent them up one by one
the ones lower down i used a mega long thin punch and taped each one until it moved up and out
took a while but was being carefull..or i just bash the holy crap with a big punch ...both work   :)

Couldn't find a old school seat post, And the tabs on the SFN were too big to bend with pliers. So I just bashed it down out the way :)

Most people do it that way but some people on MTB forums have to knock it right out as they're worried about the weight of an extra fangled nut - perverts.   :uglystupid2:
