Old school skyway sprocket - how do I get it off?

Hi all

My build is coming along nicely, I'm currently cleaning the rear tuff before dipping in bleach. As I want to ensure the hubs are protected from bleach this time (the front hub is a dull grey colour now) I am in the throes of taking the sprocket off (it was missing a number of bearings, slipping and wobbly as hell anyway).

I took the front of it off, left handed thread, millions of tiny bearings everywhere... out came two shims and a spring with two teeth on it but now I'm left with this and can't get it off.







I've tried big mole grips, drifting with a protected screwdriver etc but it ain't shifting...

Have you tried it with the axle out 
That may be holding it in

or just use loads of grease 

i'm not sure  if you got a suntour cassette style hub or not, (but if yes, this might help against the wobble:

How did you remove it? Did you use a special tool?

Did it look like this before you removed anything?

Yeh it did, except it's a 16T SIA sprocket. I undid the front race (clearly not the way to go, I've recovered 78 tiny ball bearings so far...)

So I took the toothed wheel off and what's left is the bottom bearing race. I think it's screwed on by looking at the fit. I might just buy a replacement and leave the old race in place, it's in pretty good nick.

try clamping it in a vice and use wheel to turn it,if that fails the only other way is
to get some 5mm plate and carefully weld it on to the remaining
freewheel then unscrew while still hot and it should come off easily

be carefull though if you crush it in a vice, you might crush the hub, i'd try some big fook-off stilsons carefully with loads of leverage...

It's a freewheel removal tool and I find the best way to use them is to clamp the tool in a vice, locate the 'pins' in the slots of the freewheel and turn the wheel.

Not sure it'll work now you've destroyed the freewheel 

And you need to get the right one (2-pin or 4-pin).

it was a flip-flop style hub btw not cassette

Lol Moose, it's nit that bad, it all goes back together ok, I have all the bearings that were left in it and can screw it back together ok, I want to get it off so I can protect the hub when I put the wheel in bleach.

I can't see where that removal tool would go (ahem). Where on the freewheel are the pins for that tool?

screw it back together ( dont worry about the bearings ) take it to the lbs and they will have the correct removal tool to get it off. doubt if they will charge you if you buy summat

In the picture of the freewheel I posted you'll see two rectangular 'slots' on the inside, that's where the tool locates

I misread it at first and thought it was a coaster hub and you wanted it all out   although it now looks like a suntour cassette hub  
Clamp it in a vice as Phil says

NO   NOT cassette ....... flip-flop or whatever it's called, but it's not cassette, it turns out

I've put mine back together to show the lack of removal tool slots, I have to destroy the freewheel to get it off, a la the second link you sent.




Thanks for the chisel recommendation but won't be taking a chisel to my tuff II's

Then Phil was right from the off 

try clamping it in a vice and use wheel to turn it,if that fails the only other way is
to get some 5mm plate and carefully weld it on to the remaining
freewheel then unscrew while still hot and it should come off easily

now you have it back together this is the best way to remove it,tack weld a piece
of bar across freewheel making sure it won't turn,then use bar as lever and freewheel will come off,
do it while it's still hot as this will help it
