HELP to indentify this frame please
« on: July 14, 2010, 07:36 PM »
hi
i normally live over on bmxtalk but am trying to identify a frame and was told this is the place with the knowledge lol

so here the mystery frame is,!!
its been powder coated at some point so no markings anywhere, its got two holes on the headtube so im guessing it had a metal badge on there at some point ?
the forks are a quite thin almost aero design and the bars are quite  an unusual 2pc  design and it had an old redline plastic saddle on it ,so im guessing it could be redline? anyone know for sure ?
and what model it is?
im wondering if its worth building up as a bit of a project or is it some ol shitter?

cheers
dan

Could be a Falcon pro frame but they're not Falcon forks. They look like Burner forks ??????
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Most probably it's a Raleigh R 2500 ---- around 1983                                    4
You could maybe see hints of a three holes on the head tube  :coolsmiley: --that's where the Raleigh badge probably resided
Now bring her back?  :Great_Britain: ;)

I'm probably missing some, but here some examples of the main candidates imo,/pics that might give an idea of what your bike might have looked like when it still :-* was loved

R2500 (http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=126689),
R4000 (http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=218697   (horrible page->picsize massive), BETTER:http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/raleigh/11915
R5000 (http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=221078),
R6000 (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/raleigh/33694)
ETC.      (just see 'em all through http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/raleigh/ )

glynn over at vintagebmx.com could probably provide pictures/scans  etc as he has the 83 and 84 catalogues:

Hi all

From the links to the Raleigh stuff the rear dropouts look different to me.

I reckon GIANT - very similar frame in the RAD Museum.

Serial should be on rear dropout, shine a torch at an angle if paint / powder is thick (you should be able to atleast see a trace of a a few of the number stamps)

Guessing 84 - 86.

J.

sure, the dropouts are a bit different.

But is there really a greater similarity to the dropouts of the GIANTS you suggested .?

Then: What about the brake bridge of the GIANT? Is that anywhere close to the brake bridge of the Ralieigh, whose distinct shape is strinkingly resembled in the bike right here in question, tze mystery so cal-led 'AKISU', which now for some time has been a haunt upon the house of RAD. . . .   . . . or is it NOT ?
